If your upstate do some research on Psilocybe caerulipes and Panaeolus subbalteatus
Try looking in cow pastures for p .cubensis ..they tend to love the country side

I can tell you it's not active, but I couldn't tell you what it was without a detailed ID request, there's an example in the faq of how to do that.

You didn't give us a spore print color (see the sample ID request), and that's a pretty important part of what we need for an accurate ID.
Those are very probably from the genus Mycena. I'm not aware of any active Mycena species, and none of them should be eaten for any reason. Several Mycena species have dangerous levels of muscarine in them, and they're almost all too small to bother with for eating anyway.
Happy mushrooming!

trhow it on a clean piece of printing paper.....gills face down
cover it in a tuper ware container or something , to keep all the humidity in
about a day and a half to 2 days later..take off the shoomy, lay a napkin on the paper to soak up any wetness
real easy, but yeah, they look small

He didn't ask for an ID, he just asked if they were active. No, they are not active.

Yeah, a common mistake if you are using the search feature to find threads. Common at least for new members, so no worries.

CureCat... so what is the best way to find threads then? I've been using this site for years BUT only in the past year did I become a member & yes I have read the "HOW 2'S" on using this site. This of course is how I ran up on this particular thread when refreshing my memory on how to get an ID.
W/ the explanation of how I stumbled up on this thread out of the way - any tips would be MOST appreciated!
