This came to me just as you see it, minus the pins/mycelium. All I know is that there was a layer of course dry vermiculite on top, pressed flat by the plastic cover that sealed the tub. The istructions were "Mist the top layer thoughrouly and place the tub in the filter patch bag and fold over the very top". That was just 9 days ago!! I wish I knew what was under that verm!!

well i read on the site that it costs some 65 euro... hm... not cheap at all but it yields nice!

the pic on the site though isnt so good in yield as yours!!!!!! so perhaps YOU hold the key of success!!

when the casing is over, you can do your surgery and find out whats inside. if it smells manure, if it has straw or grains or vermiculite or whatever. oh gsus, thats the sickest idea i ever had.

That must have been live mycellium already in the tub under the verm layer, which is illegal and packages from the Netherlands are highly scrutinzed by customs.

It looks great but you are lucky you got away with it!

btw, the site says its legal as long as you dont harvest them, lol, dunno if they mean also for the US.

I haven't looked at the website lately.....about a year ago I had them ship me 2 ounces of dried cubes. They only charged me 110$.....they even said if I wanted them to they would grind them up and label the powder ginsing or some other herb but I wanted the whole Mushies

I thought forsure I would get ripped off but they actually came through....

They obviously don't do this anymore if you say so.....

I used my debit card on their secure order site and had it shipped to me at my home. No problems. I may order a few more of these kits if the trip quality is as good as I think it'll be.

When it's spent I'll disect it and see if I can determine what the substrate is under the verm. I'll also try using the spent cake to spawn more of the same type substrate, if I can duplicate it. If not, I'll try knoking up some horse poo with it.

hi TM.. I was just wondering why you ordered a kit like this one for that insane amount of money. I was under the impression that you are very well able to cultivate your own mushrooms. Were you just curious or do you have too much money to spend?

that my freind is a Stropharia Cubensis, i have one in its second flush, first yeild was very nice but mine seemed to grow all mushies from the edges. the first laver is perlite, cause i replaced mine after first flush,and its back at it again, so there ya go it a STROPHARIA CUBENSIS..later

You, my friend, are uninformed. Stropharia Cubensis is the OLD name for Psilocybe Cubensis. The top layer is DEFINATELY VERMICULITE, NOT PERLITE!!

Obviously, you must be quite poor to think that $67.50 is an insane amount of money for an ounce dried of Amsterdam quality shrooms. ?I was not only curious, but thought this would be a decent deal and have the money and YES, I obviously can do bulk cultivation as well. I have many projects in various stages and I'm experimenting with all kinds of tek's. I got this kit to learn from it and watch an amazingly fast and prolific growth and attempt to duplicate it many times over with clones and spores from this product.

It actually is a shitload of money, considering the fact that you could buy pretty much everything to build your own setup (which could produce enough mushrooms for the rest of your life), with that amount of money, if not less.

Also, you speak of "Amsterdam quality shrooms". What the fuck does Amsterdam have to do with the quality of mushrooms? Top quality shrooms are grown all over the world.

Sure, its not a complete ripoff, as you obviously get a nice yield, but since you seem to think you're the cultivation king around here (based on all your arrogant and smart ass posts i've read) you can surely do better yourself..

To be honest, the mushrooms I ate from the "Art & Smartshop" off Nieuwendijk were a disappointment. I ate them (cubensis) and went to the Van Gogh museum, but the experience was very mild.

Can't help you there, I'm afraid. All I did was follow the instructions and misted the hell out of it after putting it in the bag. I did, however, mist it a second time after the first 24 hours, and I used sterile water with a splash of H2O2 in it.

This is exactly why i don't like you. You seem to think that every post you write will make everybody happy, or that you do not have to explain certain things. Shroom Kits like these are intended for people who do not wish to put any effort in mushroom cultivation, or for people who screw up anything and can only follow instructions like 'add water to kit'.
You buying this thing when you already grow your own mushrooms is a contradiction.

As for me being jealous, listen to yourself here. Why would i be jealous of something you did not even do? You bought a mushroom kit. Sorry but you don't get any credit for that when you succeed..

$67 IS NOT a high price for that setup. Where I come from, an ounce of crap street shrooms would sell for over $150. You could grow an ounce for less money, but that thing seems like it would be a lot easier. If I lived in Amsterdam, I'd get one of those.

i ment the bottom layer,like the first laver you would put in, sorry for the confusion.and the name i just got off the site, so its a tazmainian strain? i wonder if they mix it up with different strains.just to let everyone know a 1/4 ounce of shrooms around here would go for45-60 bucks. we will yeild id say 3times that,i got over a 1/4 dry from the first flush. ps you cant find anyone around here that has shrooms anyway. so way to go,and good luck with your research!

in 'an insane amount of money' insane refers to the amount of money, not to you. You may also interpret the word insane as 'huge' or 'incredible' if those words are more appropriate for your likings.

Well, it says on their site that the kit is Mexican strain, but the order confirmation I got said "Tazmanian". So there's perlite in the very bottom huh? INTERESTING!!

TM that perlite on the bottom thing soundz interesting. you may have to sterilize perlite in a microwave or pc and then while the perilte is completely dry, add h2o2 so that all it contains inside it is pure h2o2. this will help keep out contams as long as needed to make the casing.

please TM, let mr. aphex twin have the last word, because this thread is gonna keep going arguing for ever. you dont have to prove anything, if someone thinks a shroom cultivator is not permitted by any ethical rules to buy a kit and have his experiment, well, its not your problem!! well done once more pal...

I notice it does not mention a strain, but the site says "See how the mushroom mycelium forms pins, which grow into mexican mushrooms." One of your post it says Tassies" (Tazmanian). Did your receipt or something say exactly what strain it was? I am trying to rcecall what you wrote but I got lost in "why would you buy a kit if you grow them" nonsense.

How long did it take you to receive your package? Quick shippers? How was it sent? FedEx,etc.

Somewhere in one of the e-mails I got, or the order confirmation page that came up, I saw that it said "Tasmanian". ?At this point it could be either Mexican OR Tasmanian, I really don't care too much, they're quite comparable in all aspects. The caps are REALLY golden colored which is quite nice... I think they'll be VERY good shrooms as I've seen some bluing on the stems where they've simply just touched the filter-patch bag.

The kits i know that come from holland to austria contain perlite at the bottom, the substrate is rye, and the casing layer is vermiculite.

Hmm, this kit seemed to be VERY successful, especially for a 'first time grower'.... yet I dont think I've ever heard someone say to use perlite inside a casing (even tho I have seen people ask if its a good idea). So, is it pretty much the perlite is needed in order for the kit to be good when you recieve it, and that if your doing it yourself, there are better ways?

Think of perlite on the bottom the same way you would think of puting gravel at the bottom of a flower pot without a drainage hole. It simply acts as a reservoir for excess liquid.

Grain typically produces smaller mushrooms then manure.

The results seem typical for a homemade grain casing. VERY NICE.

Perlite on the bottom, vermiculite on the top, VERY DIFFICULT TO OVERWATER.

Looks like a GREAT KIT.

People (desperate) consume mycelium/extract from the mycelium to trip. That being said there was an FBI (think it was fbi) funded study a while ago on mushrooms which found no psilocybin in the mycelium. It is weird because there obviously is something in there.

Hey there,

Why does the mycelium grow up thru the vermiculite when there is nothing there to eat...force of nature? I have a couple of pints jars of T3 on rye berries that I will try the same thing with (i.e. perlite on the bottom, rye and then vermiculite on the top. Could the vermiculite be replace with Fuller's Earth (this is used in aquarium as the soil as it is not affected by the water...it is ceramic material)? It is sold in bags just like the perlite and vermiculite but costs a bit more. I think I have been getting my substrate to damp in my last few tries as the mycelium dies off strangely....thankfully I have plenty of material to work with and it is cheap to make. Who is the pretty lady?

Hey there KB...

The mycelium grows up through the verm 'cause it "sees" light and moisture up there. Verm can't be replaced by Fuller's Earth simply because it doesn't absorb moisture. You could replace the verm with peat/lime (Jiffy mix) or coco coir, or any 50/50 combination of two of the ingredients. (verm/coir, Jiffy/verm or even coir/Jiffy), but judging by the results you're seeing, pure coarse vermiculite is probably the best casing for rye fed with moisture by perlite.

One of the major things to consider before creating a duplicate of this kit is that fruiting cased rye obviously produces many but small fruits. I think a better use of your pint of colonized rye would be to spawn horse poo with it. You'll get much larger fruits that way. If you like, you could colonize the poo and case it just the way this kit is cased (pure coarse verm pressed perfectly flat). That will tend to give you the type of pinset shown by this kit, but will end up producing LARGER fruits.

I did go to their site and try to find out the shipping, but without putting a CC number in, couldn't.
I have tried allsorts of grow kits. In the early nineties, a popular kit from 'The Magic Shop' in Amsterdam, anybody remember them? Two lady owners of the shop, they kidnapped me, and I ended up staying in the Dam for 2.... oops different story . Anyway, their kit wasn't too great, it contaminated easily, and overall wasn't too productive.
This one looks OK. Lets say another ? from further flushes, seems like this could be one to recommend.
I have also seen this kit on ebay in the UK, maybe someone bought the 'buy 10' deal, and resold.

I don't think I've been too harsh, if it seemed that way, I appologize. I just was a bit put off by being told I spent "an insane amount of money" for that kit. One thing you guys have to consider is time and effort. 13 days from the day the kit arrived I picked over 80 grams of gorgeous shrooms that I did VERY little work to achieve.
These shrooms turn blue just by looking at 'em! They're gonna be some potent babies!

As for charges... I was only charged $64 INCLUDING SHIPPING!!!

Your probably right but I have killed so much mycelium lately I am hesistant to put it in anything but something simple until I get a feel for this all. My cousin has a couple of horses on his lot and they are real healthy so I might look into that....he also has some straw too. Second has 7 so far. But that's not bad at all, considering there are well over a hundred pins.

When I harvested the first flush I picked 'em right after I took the pic. All fruits as they were except for second flush pins. Came to 13 grams dried. They were small but meaty and blued REAL easy! They're gonna be some potent muthas!

Had one of those kits a few months ago. Got 4 huge flushes from it and never even got a print. Didn't know anything about that at the time. dumb-dumb! I think I could have gotten at least one more flush but it started to get a funny smell and didn't want to take any chances of contams. With each one the shrooms got bigger and bigger. Sure wish I knew what strain it was. When I tossed it I tore the casing apart, just had to know what was in it. Just vermiculite on top, very thick white in middle, and what I found sort of interesting was the bottom was packed perlite. NO contams, it was the perlite giving it the funny smell. Oh well, live and learn. Oh and just a note, there was no problem with customs and they never even cashed the check I mailed them....it was a complete freebie.

Everything is in dutch I think, I saved the box cause I thought the stamps were sort of neat. Can?t quite make out what is says but the last word in writing is spawn I think. The package came completely sealed and was not messed with.

It came already colonized... All I had to do was mist the hell out of the dry verm on top and three days later it was getting covered in mycelium. 10 days after that I harvested what ended up being 13 grams dried from the first flush.

Second flush is growing now, over 200 pins, 25 aborts so far.

A disappointment compared to the first, but keep in mind that about 70 1"-2" aborts have been pulled already. 6 dry grams worth. This flush will be completely removed with a Ginsu knife, right down to the vermiculite, so that the kit can begin an all new flush. That?ll be quite a slab of heaven!

Yes, 13 grams from the first and AT LEAST 15 from the second! That's over an ounce for just the first 2 flushes and I expect AT LEAST 1 more decent flush! This kit is INCREDIBLE!! Well worth $64 IMO, especially when you consider the ease and speed in obtaining an ounce of dried shrooms. I'll report on the quality this weekend.

yeah...

i am just thinking that this kind of flush cannot be produced by this simple perlite-vermiculite casing. In this forum i think there are many who had similar if not same teks in casing but i cant remember reading such a success. i may be wrong, but there must be either something else also there that cant be traced or that your conditions and hands did the trick.

Well guys, I did 5.5 grams of these super premium shrooms...

Let me just say, "WOW!!!!"

I was at a strong level 4 for over 3 hours during the peak, right on the verge of ego loss, right at the point where I could still override it and stay a human with headphones on instead of just a being hearing the most wonderful sounds and seeing the most intense visuals. Energy level was primo and body buzz exceptional.

These are the finest cubes I have ever experienced. (and I've done a lot in 23 years!)

Average yields for rye grain is 10 grams dry per cup of DRY Rye grain. This figure includes total Yield over several flushes.

Perlite does not increase yields, vermiculite does not increase yields.

Perlite on the bottom acts as a reservoir for COLLECTING metabolites, and excess water. Vermiculite on top is JUST a CLEAN CASING LAYER, INERT and hence can be shipped across borders even if the box is opened.

There is no magic trick, just a well manufactured casing!!!!

Well worth the money if you got it to spend, and don't mind taking the risk of having it shipped to you. Very nice!!!

Tripmeister I can understand you saying it`s worth $64 and the time saved.
But in all honesty how do you justify spending that much on such a small casing when you could spawn bulk substrates 10 times over with that much cash.??
Quite obviously giving far bigger yields and imho , better fruit and bigger flushes.
Not knocking your choices just asking the question.

Very true, you can grow a lot more for less money. If you have the time it takes, you're willing to go through the painstaking processes and risk of contamination and waiting and anticipating, etc., etc.

I know, I do grow bulk... I have several trays going now with different strains and methods... The point is that for $64 you get this thing that grows you 13 dry grams in less than 2 weeks so you can enjoy them while you're waiting on your own stuff to grow.

This kit is on it's 3rd flush now, has already yeilded 25 dry grams of the most awesome quality cubes I've ever had the pleasure to consume, and I've only had it for 3 weeks!

Trip,
I was so inspired by your experience that I bought a kit from the Shaman. It arrived on august 23 and I misted it and put in the bag. After three days there was spotty white fuzz on the surface of the vermiculite. I opened the bag and misted again. Today is the ninth day and all I have is one pin about and inch tall. Am I impatient or am I doing something wrong? Directions say not to fan until all pins are inch tall. Advice?

Okay, I think a lot has to do with the following;

How heavy you mist the first time, how far progressed the spawn is under the verm (no way to tell), and the ambient temperature. I kept mine at 74-78 the entire time and used about 2/3 of a cup of water to mist the verm. Be patient, you should get the same results I got.

As a control test, I ordered another one of those kits to see if it produces the same way twice. (Not only that, but those Tazzies are the best shrooms I've ever done!)

Thanks. I keep it in a room with diffused sunlight that stays 76 degrees. I did the initial misting of about five pumps of a bottle sprayer. Wet the edges of the bag too. When I cheecked it today, the one mushroom is about 1 1/2" tall and other tiny pins have appeared on the edges of the tray only. Nothing in the middle. I am leaving the bag open for an hour (per the directions) to do CO2 exchange. Sounds like I should be more patient?

Sounds like you used way to little water to soak the verm... Nothing you can do about it now. Do very little air exchange unless you want MULTIPLE aborts on subsequent flushes. The filter patch works very well all by itself.

I just hope the newbies recognize the risks associated with importing this type of thing into countries where psilocybe mushrooms are illegal. Packages from the Netherlands are heavily scrutinzed. Even envelopes are opened and searched on a regular basis. Buyer beware!
