micropore tape
    #8034177 - 02/17/08 10:28 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I use micropore paper tape for the gas exchange filters on the lids of my jars. I'm curious what people are doing who use micropore. I put tape on both sides of the lid, I'm wondering if I am restricting gas exchange due to the fact that both adhesive sides of the tape meet over the hole? How are others using the tape?

use some polyfill man. haveing 2 pieces on there like you said shouldnt hurt the gas exchange process at all. it wouldnt be breathable in the first place right? the sticky side has to be breathable too.

When used properly it should be breathable, but the tape was never meant to be used like this. I'm just thinking all the adhesive mushed together may be forming a---"clog"(for lack of a better word). It's been my standard way of doing things, so I really don't know what the difference would be. Anybody else use this stuff in this manner?

Howdy Resptodd!

Question (sorry if this is jacking your thread) .... Procedure for cleaning the heated adhesive scum from the lids???

I have used isopropyl alcohol .... but mostly it is elbow grease.

Easier way?

That's Not Good! Any moisture or whater that lands on the tape on the inside can bring in contaminants/bacteria, etc...
