Grand Canyon
    #8032715 - 02/16/08 09:08 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I just got home from THE Canyon, figured I'd go check it out
again, seeing as it's right in my back yard. In the three years
since I've been, the South Rim has changed so much.

Nice. Love the canyon.

This pic was taken at the south rim on the morning I hiked out (after a week long backpacking trip). I left the bottom at 11PM and arrived at the rim about 9AM. Probably one of the best hikes I ever had!

Yeah this year has been HUGE for snow around here, we've been
getting 1-3' every week or so.

Summit: Cool man, we have the same Gregory pack.. I love it at
the bottom of the Canyon, so surreal, hearing the roar of the
River and looking at the stars at night, I've been able to walk
in just starlight down there. I realized today I need to start
backpacking more and picked up a book for North Rim loop hikes
7+ days..

Yeah, I love my Gregory pack. Probably the best investment for backpacking I ever made, besides my boots.

And walking at night is awesome! The night before that picture was taken it was a full moon. My buddy and I just enjoyed a nice leisurely stroll under full moonlight all night long. As I said, it was probably the best hike I ever had.

The suspension on the Gregory is awsome, and planning pack
trips around the full moon definately saves on battery weight.

7 days in the Canyon WOW, what trails were you on?

Went in on the South Kaibab trail.  Spent one night about halfway down.  Spent the rest camped at Bright Angel campground at the bottom.  Did lots of day hikes around the area and enjoyed many cold beers in the evening.  Hiked out under a full moon on the Bright Angel trail.

Best part was soaking in the Bright Angel creek every eveing before wandering over to have a beer and BS with all the other hikers at the lodge.  Backpacking was never so good!

I even sent myself a postcard from the bottom while I was there.  Probably the only place left in the US where mail is actually carried out on a mule!

The grand canyon is amazing looking down from the edge is something else. I took a raft down the the river saw some people tip over, people jumping out with beers in their hand trying to see if they could hold on to it without dropping it and get back in the raft. Also went somewhere else in the west were there was a suspended bridge that was built in the 1800's over a VERY deep canyon, it was intense standing on that old bastard.

The Navajo Bridge is pretty bitchin. It is over the Colorado river at the extreme East end of the Grand Canyon, just below Lake Powell near Page AZ.

I can't remember the name of the bridge or were it was, the bridge was only meant to be walked on, it was made of rope and wood some metal I'm sure, very old. No cars ever drove on it, I know that much, it's gonna drive me nuts if I can't think of it.

Okay I think this is it it was a a long time ago when i went to this thing but I was wrong about the 1800's thing and it's not made of rope, I don't know if this is it but it sounds familiar. I went there a little over 10 years ago so I don't know for sure. But I guess people did drive on this one, I guess i was wrong about alot of things. But then again this may not be the particular one I am thinking but this is cool anyway.

I have no idea but it's called Royal Gorge Bridge the highest suspension bridge in the world, and it's amazing.
