Hey man. I am not much a smoker anymore, but the past few days I've been smoking a lot of blunts with my friends. Today I've decided to start refraining because while cannabis can definitely give awesome bursts of insight, clarity, and creativity, it easily becomes a dependency thing on some level for me, an escape, and also a source of general murkiness.

Do you practice meditation at all? You post a lot in P&S, I've noticed, and a lot people in there practice meditation. It can seem boring but it is fucking worth it to develop a good practice of just sitting and being with yourself without having to constantly be stimulated.

to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I used to post in P&S until i realized the p is for pussies and the s is shit. But it's funny that you mentioned meditation, that's really the whole reason that i stopped, that and lucid dreaming. I medidtated for the first time in a long time this morning. It seemed like an eternity, but i looked at the clock and it had only been 5 minutes. Im so close to smoking a bowl it's crazy... i had a terrible day at work.

Well don't give up. Smoking another bowl is fine, but weed really dampens the finer receptivity of parts of the brain and closes you off to a lot of possibilities with meditation and lighter highs.

Even 5 or 10 minutes of meditation is beneficial. Why did it feel so long? Did you have a lot of aches and cramps, or was it just your mind kind of...racing around, looking for somewhere else but here and now?

no... i went through the mind racing thing and then it was all the cars going down my street, and then i focused on taking energy into my third eye and time seemed to stop. But i didnt feel like time stopped, i felt as if id been sitting there for a half hour. Normally i have trouble keeping my eyes closed but this time i didnt. I think this is a perfect time for me to take it easy on the weed. im in the market for some books too, please suggest a good read.

Its all good, smoking weed all the time gets expensive and you get dependent on it to help you relax, cope, sleep...etc..
try a beer or two if you have a hard time sleeping, relaxing.
Start exercising, it gives you a natural high and you can relax naturally better and you dont stress as much.
I am starting to exercise more and lift weights..i smoke enough and drink beer enough. I can't be the one to talk, i have a hard time staying away from substances to get through life.

I toked nearly every day for 10 years.

I chose to quit in order to learn how to lucid dream.

It's been 7 months since I quit, and I'm just now noticing how simple things like food and music alter my consciousness.

It's true one can get just as high from certain breathing exercises as cannabis, only I come down immediately after I stop.

Look into Holotropic breathing and Pranayama...

It doesn't get any easier unless you replace it with something like meditation or exercise.

I smoke Salvia sometimes because it doesn't interfere with dream recall like cannabis, but it's just not the same.

Low dose mushrooms work as a good replacement, but then my dreams get too erratic.

I'm this close ][ to a relapse...

Know what's weird? The other night I was really stoned, went to bed, and had an extremely vivid and exciting dream which I recalled fully in the morning. I forget it now, of course, but if I'd written it down................

Yeah that happened to me occasionally when I toked.

When I toked every day I wouldn't usually remember much though, just me maybe. :ohwell:

Low dosing kicks ass. ive always enjoyed it more then over doing it. And if i wanted to join the army i'd just go ahead and kill myself with an ied. and what is it about meditation that makes it a good replacement.

Tips for better sleep:

-Stop eating and drinking after 7 pm. Don't snack throughout the night. If you're near the end of the digestion process by the time you're in bed, your body is more relaxed and using less energy.

-Sit in meditation before bed, even if only for a few minutes.

-Get an exhausting exercise during the day, preferably between mid-morning and early afternoon.

-Stretch regularly throughout the day.

-Abstain from caffeine and sugar.

--------------------
“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

the motorcycle really isn't such a bad idea

going 150mph is the most natural high there is
it's better than xtc >.>

now do the math, if you're as bad as i
stopping tokin is going to make your wallet swell
start putting how much money you'd spend on weed everytime you wanna smoke in a little box

you'll have quite a bank soon :-P

I went from smoking the minute I woke to the last minute before I slept to smoking nothing.

To occupy my time I started jogging everyday.
I learnt to play the guitar.
I got xbox live and play on-line games.
I took up more days at work.

Theres always plenty to do. Its just breaking free of those old thought loops.

Makes me wanna quit too, I been a heavy smoker for 7 years now, and I think its kind of an addiction. Most my friends blaze all day and that makes it hard for me, I almost need new friends to make it easier, but I would never ditch my friends because I quit, but still it just makes it harder.

Anyway, quitting is a good idea, I would be so much better off without it, it's just that weed reality is more interesting then sober reality.

I mean I love weed, but for me its holding me back in alot of ways, some people can live life normally while smoking tons of weed, but I'm just not one of those people.

I recently quit smoking too, what i would do, is save the money you spend on weed, for me about 40 a month, and do something with it. I'm easy and just take my wife on dates more often...more dates = more pussy...its nice.

I actually quit a little over a month ago, shit, almost two now, and i still crave it sometimes, but am much more energetic and quick thinking...Its nice..

you will find yourself getting bored sometimes, I just walk my dog when that happens personally...lately I've also been doing lots of stuff around the house, fixing it up and whatnot

peace

Try heroin. That'll take up a lot of your time.

Or take a mixed martial arts class.
Muay thai, pekiti tersia kali and grappling are a lot of fun.

Spend some time online, there are some awesome threads both on here and in other forums about sober tripping, inducing natural highs which last throughout the day. (sort of like popping half-quarter pill apparently).

Why not look into getting into tricking, break dancing, capoirera (spelling) acrobatics, martial arts (as dragonchaser suggested) etc. Those are pretty awesome natural highs and will also build you a functional and efficient body.

For sleep, look into valerian root sleep aid teas. Try the yogi tea brand teas and double the dose. Also, clipper do sleep aid teas. Meditation/relaxation prior to sleep helps too.

You might not sleep well for a week or whatever, but as a friend who also recently quit after 10yrs of blazing daily to get to sleep, eventually he just felt so tired after not sleeping for so long, he DID fall asleep naturally, and from then it gets easy as your body/mind start functioning as they were meant to.

Don't replace weed with alcohol etc!

come on bro, I was wondering if someone would think it meant being a slut, but i hoped not. considering the common theme of break dancing, capoirera, acrobatics, martial arts...don't you think tricking is something similar?? in terms of what i meant.

http://trickstutorials.com/

then again, way too many people (sarcastically???) suggest heroin and other counterproductive/sarcastic ideas. maybe you thought I was giving out that sort of suggestion too.

Apologies if this post comes across as belligerent.

So since ive stopped ( i still smoke a bowl every 2 days or so) Ive been dreaming waaay more. The 1st week they were all cool dreams that i had no control over. And that's when the nightmares started, theyre not horribly scary or anything it's just shit i dont wanna be dreaming about. Im always in some kind of physical altercation with someone in them too, what the hell does that mean? But on the plus side im way more focused and that's great.

i have got to say capoirera is the gayest shit out there next to scat. its useless.

i suggest kung fu. my school incorporates mantis kung fu with qigong. which is extremely helpful.

capoirera is just, extremely....lame.

ok i figured it out apparently fighting in dreams means that you need change and are trying to free yourself of something. This is crazy considering ive been really really hating my job and wanting a new one. This is the first time one of these dream analysis deals have been right on.

I was having those same kind of dreams, they have mostly stopped now.
I know what you mean by 'nightmares' not scary but very uncomfortable.
Where did you find that dream analysis stuff, sounds interesting.

i see the references to lucid dream and that cannibiss stops that, is that scientific or just from personal experience??  i have a friend who is very into lucid dreaming but still smokes, i think writing down your dreams in the morning is the best way to get into it.  also, it seems (never tried) that meditating could be a lot easier under the influence of THC, i am an everyday smoker and those are the least thought intensive times of the day, the rest of the time im all over the place.  maybe it is just different from one person to another ya know?

Yeah right, i love weed. i just feel like i abuse and it and i needed to kick start my brain so i went cold turkey. I did that for like a week, started working out more, being more conscious of my food, and now i smoke a bowl or blunt every 2-3 days. Im happier, im dreaming more, and it's really helping me out in my waking life.
