Ozium or Oust?
    #4809953 - 10/16/05 02:09 AM (18 years, 4 months ago)

I believe Stamets somewhere said to use one of these in the room which you're working.

Ozium:

Triethylene Glycol.................4.4 %
Propylene Glycol ..................4.4 %

Oust:

Triethylene glycol.................6 %
Petroleum gases, liquefied, sweetened 25-35 %

Which would work better for cultivation?

I think they both do essentially the same thing...Ozium is more expensive and sold in smaller containers for the car freshener market.

Someone has to have heard which one is best...

Ozium is marketed for the medical/hospital market and they sell it in large cans which aren't too bad in price. They just also sell the small car ones which are a terrible deal.

Lysol is a surface disinfectant, it does nothing for the air except lighten your wallet. And bleach will burn your lungs and have you coughing. Ozium/Oust are specifically made for air sanitation.

You can also use Ozone (O3). Ozone generators are a one time investment. It is probally easier on the lungs and work just as well. I noticed a major reduction in contams when I got mine running, get em wherever hydro supplies are sold.

Ozone is harmful in high concentrations, though. And fairly expensive.

Ozium is used by dr.s for hospital sanitation used in labs and during surgeries. Oust is commercialized, over-priced diluted ozium. oust is just made so soccer moms don't notice their garbage odor, not for hospital sanitation. Ozium has a better fog dispersing tip and more ability to capture particles with a fog.

Oust is for the air, not surfaces. It is for killing airborne bacteria. I always fog up the room very well about ten minutes before I start the flowhood.

I am also gonna Vote for Bleach Water. its very very effective at mixtures of 9.5:1 to 10:1(WATER TO BLEACH). I find 9:1 has a bleach smell and burn in the air while 9.5:1 has not much of a smell or burn.

the water in the bleach solution is very effective at dragging contam spores and whatnot down to the floor where its collected then killed.

Oust is very nice but expensive. reason i like oust if i had the money, would be the fact that it stays in the air floating around for like 10 minutes doing its job

with bleach water, you wanna wear any mask or cloth over your mouth and nose in case you get irritated.

Ozium air sanitizer is the best way to keep the air in your home or work space clean and smelling fresh. Ozium does not cover up the odors associated with sewer, pets, cooking and smoking - it eliminates them! . Ozium, the original air purifier, is a chemical agent that actually eliminates smoke and unpleasant odors and reduces airborne bacteria. Ozium actually cleanses the air through glycolized action. The Ozium glycolized formula acts directly on odor causing particles in the air. Ozium is distinguished from other products that simply mask odors. Ozium is an EPA registered air sanitizer and is safe to use residentially or commercially in homes, rental property, hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, veterinary clinics, restaurants, bars, laundry rooms, cars, mobil homes, offices, and just about anywhere there might be an odor problem.

Ozium Metered Air Sanitizer is dispersed into the air by way of one of our metered air freshening systems that spray a fine mist of lighter-than-air particles at timed intervals. The Ozium particles remain suspended for 3-4 hours to neutralize, sanitize and deodorize odors, leaving nothing behind but clean air and a fresh fragrance.
EPA registered.

You know if they recommend it for hospital, veterinary clinics, nursing homes it's the best stuff out there especially with children and hospitals where they HAVE to keep it clean and sterile as much as possible. It has a finer fog also.

Now for the health benefits of it. It does contain phthalates (pronounced THAL-ates), a group of chemicals that are used to dissolve and carry fragrances, soften plastics and also as sealants and adhesives. Phthalates are commonly found in a variety of products, including cosmetics, paints, nail polish and children's toys — and have long been at the center of a larger international controversy over their health effects.

Studies involving rat and human subjects have suggested that high exposures to certain kinds of phthalates can cause cancer, developmental and sex-hormone abnormalities (including decreased testosterone and sperm levels and malformed sex organs) in infants, and can affect fertility. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has no regulations on the use of phthalates, does not require the labeling of phthalate content on products and does not consider the quantities to which people are exposed to be harmful. But other countries think otherwise. In 2004, the European Union banned two types of phthalates in cosmetics and also bans the chemical in children's toys, as do 14 other countries. The first state bill to ban phthalates in children's toys in the U.S. is currently sitting on California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk, and he is expected to sign it this week.

Plug-in, spray or stand-alone liquid and gel air fresheners are used in nearly 75% of U.S. households, and the market has doubled since 2003 to $1.72 billion. The NRDC tested products, including those labeled "all-natural" or "unscented," and found a wide range of phthalate content, from zero parts per million (ppm) to 7,300 ppm. Many air fresheners contained a phthalate known as DEP and some also contained DBP, which are listed by the California EPA's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment as a developmental toxin and female and male reproductive toxin, respectively.

An analysis of more than a dozen common household air fresheners found that most contain chemicals that may affect hormones and reproductive development, particularly in babies, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) said today. The federal government does not currently test air fresheners for safety or require manufacturers to meet any specific safety standards. The study offers both consumers and officials new information on the risks certain air fresheners pose.
…
NRDC tested 14 different brands of common household air fresheners and found that 12 contained the hormone-disrupting chemicals known as phthalates. Only two, Febreze Air Effects and Renuzit Subtle Effects, contained no detectable levels of phthalates. The products that tested positive included ones marketed as “all-natural” and “unscented.” None had phthalates in the list of ingredients or anywhere else on the label. The three with the highest level of phthalates were Walgreens Air Freshener, Walgreens Scented Bouquet, and Ozium Glycolized Air Sanitizer.

While consumers should be concerned about the chemicals, NRDC stressed that there is no cause for panic. The chemicals pose their greatest risk over long term repeated exposure.

I will talk to my science studier who's been using this 'Air Sanitizer' for years now and see what he/she thinks...I still say if it's used around children and hospitals it has to be good...And because of how it kills off bacteria eliminating it instantaneously ... shit loads better then ousts that's for sure

Basically you'd have to be in the same room day after day spraying it over and over huffing the shit for it to cause any real damage I would say...look how they test shit on monkeys, rats, animals in general...they through them in an airtight container and flood the thing with the substance.
