Yeah maybe wait for the new PCLOS to come out, i've tried PCLinuxOS2007, was not pleased at all. Choosing a linux distro generally comes down to what you want to do with it. One day i may give up mepis (despite how much i love it) and build a debian machine from bare bones with only the software i need and without the crap i don't need.

Run Vista if your PC is newish (Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad or AMD X2) with at least 2gb of ram. It's noticeably faster than XP with almost everything but marginally slower in games.

nah Vista is really slower with everything. Try running applications, especially graphics applications and try rendering 3d images, it way too slow on Vista.

everyone knows that vista is the worst thing to ever happen to computers, except for microsoft employees and people who have never used anything else.

I don't know. I've ran both OSs on this computer (Q6600@3ghz, 2gb ram). XP was CLEARLY slower booting up and opening programs. I know you couldn't say the same for a Pentium 4/D, or anything older.

The point though is that vista will run with nothing less than a 6600:lol:

that, and it's WAYYYYY more buggy than XP.  while you're computer is crashing, i'll still be posting here with my xp.:yesnod:

Right. Don't run Vista with anything other than an Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad or AMD X2 and less than 2gb of ram.

B/C vista is Bill Gates' premature orgasm, and is basically a $400 beta.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a tech guy screaming that microsoft is fascist and linux is the only proper way of life, I don't even use linux, i'm running XP on all of my comps. It's just that Vista has no business as an OEM install on computers meant for the general public. It's buggy and deficient.

It's just my personal opinion. I think it takes up too much space, uses too much memory, and doesn't add that much functionality.

But is it possible to trim it down and disable all the crap like you can with previous versions?
