Your opinion wanted
    #8030243 - 02/16/08 06:20 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

How do the people here in M & P view their experiences while tripping?

I held off trying anything psychdelic until I was about 23 because of all the weird stories I heard. When I finally tried it, it felt like it took me to a place I had already been. That place I'm at when I have dreams that come true or strong impressions of people. Not really the astral plane but that place where you are hyper aware. Once I realized this is where it took me, I relaxed and enjoyed the ride.

Most of my experiences have not been while I was tripping. But there's been some doozies while I was. However I find them rather suspect. Don't really trust them.

So what's your opinion?

For me, everything seems crystal clear. Like my eye site got really good, almost too good.I cant control my thoughts, this is why being around people who are not tripping is very annoying. I want to let it flow out, but then all the sober people laugh because they have no idea what im talking about. Thats why I spend my tripps outside, because my body feels like it can breathe, or be set free.

I guess you could say I mentally get claustrophobic.

An initiation.

For me it brings pure msytical experience that no matter hard we try we cannot describe in words, its sheds clear light on doubt.

It releases the ultimate truth before your mind, all thats left for you to do is recognize and realise this, then actualise it for eternal liberation.

See im still trying to explain it in words, but at least you asked my opinion this time

I think this forum (mysticism& paranormal) is my new home, the philosophy forum shouldn't be called philosophy & spirituality , as philosophy is theory, spirituality is pure truth that needs no theory, only faith.

yet LOTS of posters in that forum have no faith whatsoever, only philosophical cynicism.

I tend to trust my experiences on a physical/mental/spiritual level, no matter what the catalyst.  Tripping helped to open my awareness to include infinite layers of reality and being within my own System, allowing me to continue my trip even when I wasn't tripping.  It's all one big trip anyway, one big state of mind:  LIFE!

I have trust in myself because I am here and alive, and I am all I have, so I must trust and love.  Psychedelics have assisted in connecting to a genunine sense of trust and self-love within myself.  I don't draw the line between "tripping experiences" and "sober experiences" anymore.  It's all part of the same trip, and all experiences are worthy of introspection.

edit: typo

Cool. I'm glad everyone got what I'm trying to say.

I posted this here instead of P & S because, even though there are wise and intelligent people there, I just knew it would get derailed into a "Are psychic experiences real" which is not what I am asking.

Chronic I completely understand being at a loss for words. It does the same thing to me.

Nicely said Moth.

You are the second person to recommend it. If I ever get to a bookstore (I live in BFE [bum fuck egypt]) I'll have to pick it up.

I hope that's a joke! Oh wait, you're not american. BFE means I live out in the middle of nowhere a very rural area. Also called the boonies or boondocks.

And I'm too frugal (cheap) to pay shipping. I've got a great used bookstore I go to occasionally.

So what's your opinion?

Intention and Attention are the most important factors in any experience.
I agree that there is no 'sober', I trip pretty hard simply by drumming.

As far as psychedelics, I've found 'set and setting' to be extremely important.

When I dose at a concert or when camping without much preparation the trip is fun but not very constructive.

I once juice fasted for 7 days, drove to Sedona, AZ and ate 5g on top of Cathedral Rock Vortex.
That was the only time I have had contact with an undeniable Extra Dimensional Entity.

I once did "The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram" every day for 40 days,
and then ate an eighth in the circle and it was by far the most 'Mystical' trip I've ever had.

The experiences I prepared for and stated a purpose for were the most focused and transformative.

One of Ram Dass's best talks is about how he kept trying to stay 'high' but always came down.
I agree with him that entheogens only show what's possible, it's lots of work to get there permanently.

Here's a video of a great talk by him: An Evening With Ram Dass

Studying the works of the pioneers also help me to get the most out of my Self:

C. S. Hyatt - Undoing Yourself with Energized Meditation
Tim Leary - Info-Psychology: A Re-Vision of Exo-Psychology
E. J. Gold - The Human Biological Machine as a Transformational Apparatus
Israel Regardie - The Middle Pillar: The Balance Between Mind and Magic
Bob Wilson - Prometheus Rising: An Amalgam of Timothy Leary's 8-circuit Model of Consciousness
John Lilly - Programming and Metaprogramming in the Human Biocomputer: Theory and Experiments
Stan Grof - The Holotropic Mind: The Three Levels of Human Consciousness and How They Shape Our Lives

These guys were all greatly influenced by old-schoolers Al Crowley and G.I. Gurdjieff.

Crowley's The Book of Lies and Liber Aleph are his most concise, imo.
Ouspensky's In Search of the Miraculous helped me to understand Gurdjieff's books.

Reading only gets one so far though, the final secret of the Illuminati = DO IT Every Day.

Pretty awesome.  A few months ago I was looking for information on fasting combined with psychedelics.  I did extended juice and water fasting this past year and it's changed my life in many positive ways.  Lately I have wanted to try a long fast combined with a strong psychedelic dose just because I trust both methods and am curious about what would happen.  That might be an experiment for this upcoming summer.

I was surprised that I felt no nausea like other 5g doses.

Evidence that it's not the shrooms that cause nausea while tripping but our toxic diets.

Though I did try to make myself vomit because I was so frightened by the intensity.

I've never been "in the scene" so to say with psychedelics and such. Or however you would put it.  That sounded really old-fashioned.

It wasn't until this past summer I even discovered some people truly consider the mushroom sacred.  And I am in my 30's.  But sometimes there's a reason for timing.  When I was younger I would have been unable to utilize this info in a healthy manner.  Now it has me intrigued.

Thanks for the info guys.  Think I'll start with Ram Dass.  The Middle Pillar looks interesting too.

The "do it everyday" though, Middleman.  That bothers me a little.  The more you "go there" the harder it is to leave.  Makes it really hard to function on a practical level for me.

Hey I'm in my 30s too, and I'm just now learning how to operate with a blown mind.

I didn't mean trip every day though. I meant practice the self-development techniques in the books.

The powers of awareness that psychedelics trigger, when cultivated naturally over a long period of time, are much more manageable and beneficial.

hmm my experiences while tripping have characteristically been just insanity. nothing too mystical. Tripping is what changed me from an agnostic towards pretty much a full blown atheist. I've had what some may call "breakthrough" experiences, but what people get from theses differ immensely, and for me i guess it was just an ego altering which gave me the feeling of nothingness (inspite of all the visuals and the situations i felt i was in) on the comedown or wave-out it all seemed too intangible, a vivid, yet much more insane than normal, dream.

Though on a similar note:
I only trip in groups of people where i can share the experience. And i feel that everyone is on the same wavelength and we can all communicate incredibly well and bonding is on a constantly good level.

I wasn't talking about tripping everyday!  Good Lord! (or good insert your deity here so I stay pc )

I was talking about the astral plane.

Meditation however I love.  I always wanted to try a guided meditation.

Flangenips, I guess it's just different for everyone.  Each trip is different as well.  I had such an extreme mystical experience this past summer that still has me questioning and thinking about the powers that be.  And myself.  But that's really why we do it isn't it?

'I had such an extreme mystical experience this past summer that still has me questioning and thinking about the powers that be. And myself. But that's really why we do it isn't it?'

Can you explain more about your experience if you don't mind??
Did it involve mushrooms for example??

And from this thread can we conclude that operating on a blown mind is action more from the astral plane??

I can't make that conclusion actually. But your mind can be blown from visiting that plane.

The time I had this summer was unique. I tripped for part of the journey, but it didn't start out that way. To be honest I don't want to do a trip report. If I did it would be posted where trip reports are posted.

What I am talking about here is whether or not I should incorporate what I experienced into what I believe. That's about the best way I know how to say it.

the psychedelic world is an endless rabbit hole, the depth and layers to the experience is unimaginable by the inexperienced.

the imagination can crystalize to the point where thought manifests into 3d reality in various forms. think of it as a lucid dream, yet occuring in what appears to be the physical plane. it can appear so real, that you can even touch and feel your hallucinations/imagination. there is more to the astral plane than you currently realize, this goes for all of us. we can perceive it through various levels of awareness, the further we go into awareness the more "real" and utterly amazing the astral world becomes.

many define the third eye based on the limits of their experience. the third eye goes deep, deeeep into the conscious dream world.

i will trip till i die.

it would be a profound blessing and illumination of awareness to experience the dark room. staying in darkness for long periods of time is known to give one the ability to have full control over the dream world, let alone full on expanded consciousness/astral projection/obe's. apparently the nervous system becomes aware of itself, the body becomes aware of itself - awareness grows into a multidimensional expanded visionary experience that unifies us with the higher mind or gaia consciousness.

Whether these archaic Alchemical secrets were presented to the ancient Egyptian kings, or as the Soma of the ancient Veda's, whether it be the plant alchemy of the ancient Taoists, or the cave dark room alchemy of the Chinese sages and Tibetan Buddhists of the Vajrayana and Bon Po traditions; whether it be the Gnostic Christ teachings, or the Heavenly bread of the line of Kayin, the craftsman; whether it be the Shamans of the Amazon Basin, or the Shem.Ma.Na's of ancient Sumeria; whether it be the Zoroastrians and their Haoma, or Mohammed and the Espand; whether it be the Manichaeans, the Cathars, or the Templers with the Agape Arcanum; or the Northern gods Orthrorir Meade of immortality and wisdom, that Odin bequeathed.

What I gather from the experience is this:

We are all plugged in. Call it the collective.
Could be individual imagination.
In any case there exists a source. The holy grail.
This source lies on the other side of a fragile barrier.
The barrier also keeps out the unwanted.
The barrier is a structure of mind.
Given keys, time, and thought...
One is allowed to traverse this barrier.
Psychedelics are chemical keys.
Psilocybin is a serotonin analogue.

I dream of an engine that runs on psilocybin.
Although the energy is probably subjective.
Brain.

I like that. Sometimes the barriers are created by us as well.

The ancient forest that Moonshoe spoke about in his thread. This is where I went. It felt like a return.

I've noticed no one is posting who doesn't believe these experiences are real. Even though M&P says you can't question others I did request opinions. I'm ok with someone saying they don't think they are real, just don't attack the other posters please.

Although not alot of people who don't believe hang out here.

In less intellectual interpretations of the haloes of saints, some see the halo as symbolizing the saint's consciousness as 'radiating' beyond the physical body, and that it serves as a pictorial reminder to the saint's devotees of the saint's transcendence of the physical body[ci

The halo is a symbol of the Uncreated Light (Greek: Ἄκτιστον Φῶς) or grace of God shinging forth through the icon. Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite in his Celestial Hierarcies speaks of the angels and saints being illuminated by the grace of God, and in turn illumining others.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

While I by no means consider myself a saint. There was a difference with this trip than any other.

What's interesting about what you are saying is that there was someone there who was having a bad trip(it was a small gathering) and he walked by me and stopped and said "I'd just like to hang out with you for awhile, I'm having a bad time and there is just the brightest light around you. I feel safe here."

We sat and talked for awhile until he was in a better place mentally. I learned alot from him. But it wasn't like learning, more like being reminded of things I already know. Make sense anyone?

I wouldn't bring it up except for the light you spoke of.

More like Kykeon, a shaff (sheaff?? WTF??) of wheat, and something about the Goddess of grain.

indeed, there is much to learn from ourselves.. self-awareness is a knowledge that doesn't come through words or concepts, rather realization. entheogens are great teachers in that they show us how the barriers of the mind prevent us from being receptive to ourselves. we contain information that we aren't even aware of, the more we investigate ourselves the more information is revealed. we are one with the earth, entheogens connect us with ourself which is the earth's (our) intelligence.
