to pick or not to pick...
    #8028194 - 02/15/08 05:07 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

So, hypothetically, if I were to find one lonesome cube in a field tomorrow, should I pick it? seems like a simple enough question with an even simpler answer, but I was wondering if it would be beneficial to leave it there so it can drop all of its spores and, in the long run, produce some friends. since it's kinda in between the big seasons in Texas, would picking this one mushroom halt or take away from the overall production of this spring season? i'm guessing it would take quite a while for the spores dropped from this one cube to make it all the way through the cycle of cow's stomaches --> shit --> mycelium --> mushrooms. any thoughts?

all that you slight, and everyone you fight, all that is now, all that is gone, all that's to come,
and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moooooooooooooon!"

you could always take it home make a pore print, then scrape the print on the field. Or put the spores in a super soaker and spray the field that way you keep the mushroom and the cycle of life continues

why not just give it a solid thump once its mature, and then pick it the next day or a few hours later

I would go ahead and let it get mature if its not already.

" why not just give it a solid thump once its mature, and then pick it the next day or a few hours later "

I suppose that is a good idea but Ive read numerous reports saying that " thumping " really doesnt do much because they already drop enough spores just by themselves and perhaps the weather helps as well.

Print it, shoot up a big jar of grain and start seeding cow patties. poke a hole in it with a walking stick fill the hole with grain and close up the hole with your foot then water it.
I "seeded" several tree stumps in a park a few years ago and as far as I know they're still producing oysters.
Good luck!

pick them and put them in a potato/onion sack with lots of holes, then just walk around the field, the spores will drop and make a nice home.
