Building topsoil
    #8027351 - 02/15/08 01:28 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I have a friend who is interested in building up the topsoil on his property. Apparently he has a ton of eucalyptus woods chips/trees on his property and was wondering what kind of mushroom would be best to break all that stuff down. Any ideas? I've heard that chicken of the woods (i think thats the one) grows on eucalyptus... but nothing more than that.

In Brazil they grow shiitake on euc.
I'm trying it here in oz. Reishi is growing on euc dowels, and Hypsyzigus ulmarius appears to be adapting-not sure if they'll fruit, but why not?
Psy sublataerium also loves euc.

Pleurous eryngii.
Some farms use eucalyptus as substrate. Your friend will need to rent a good chipper and must consider the climate. Between 80 and 60 degrees with occasional rain would be worth experimenting.
