contamination???
    #8027132 - 02/15/08 12:37 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

i mixed up some hpoo and vermiculite, with one jar of spawn. i did it in a small foil pan. I did this yesterday, and i checked on it today, and it looks as though the rye has white poofy stuff all around it. sorta looks like a dandylion when they turn white. just wondering if this is bad? i did a 29gal monotub with 4 quarts of spawn and it does not look like this one here. maybe im just over reacting??

here are some pics

loks dry and contamed. Looks as if you do not know what you are doing so I woud assuume that it is contamed

it could be really thin myc and in a few days it will whiten up when it thickens, but my only knowledge is from reading.

the myc in my jars was always really grey for a long time but never turned out to be contam.

That looks like cobweb mold to me, but again, I cannot be certain from pictures. I can only assume thanks to the whispy, grey like characteristics.

no im not experienced its my first grow, but i have lots of spawn to play with and get it right... ill isolate it and watch it for a couple more days and repost pics... its a white color, not gray. is there anything i can do about it if it turns out to be cobweb? should i spray my substrate to moisten it up if its too dry? its no big deal to throw it away, im still learning, as we all are. thank you.

cobweb cure = hydrogen peroxide, more air exchange.

but IMO that shit should covered in foil and incubating still, and you shouldnt know whether or not you had a contam so soon. cover, incubate & forget.... in that order.... next time.

yea ill just forget about it for a while.. put the foil back on it and check it in 3-5 days.. i really appreciate the advice. what should humidity be like for incubation... i know what it should be for fruiting but im not to that stage with any of the substrates im trying out.

you dont need humidity in the incubator, the foil top holds the substrate moisture in, thats one of the reasons you leave it covered.

dont do anything till it matures and you know for sure.

idk how much to peroxide to use, i think ive read people using cotton balls or q-tips and just lightly dabbing it on the infected area, and i "think" it dies right away. i imagine you could make a solution to spray the whole thing with, but that strictly my opinion, i have no evidence.

it could be really thin mycelium due to the lack of moisture of the substrate.

Spray it with water to mositen it up. H202 will work to kill the cobweb but the only true way to get rid of it is too trash it. It is easier to start over then to clean up after an outbreak

get it wet, let it drain for an hour. Should be fine.
