This is a title from an Erowid trip report. Does it make sense to anyone here?

He is obviously comparing his deeper fears with his personal beliefs about dying. Not sure what's so scary about non-existence though. To be afraid of the idea makes no sense to me.

It sounds mixed up, like it should be "Non-existence is Nothing, compared to Death...."

What I get from it is that death is preferable to not existing (i.e., not making your mark on the world) in the first place...or something like that.
But then what the fuck do I know?

Yes, one has a hollow center.....!
"Death" and "Nothing" + (an implied) "Life" and "Something" = a zero sum, but it all still existed....
Yeah, must be a abstraction of poetry of sorts.... It only makes sense when I squint my brain really hard, then it gets blurry again....

Non-existence is the base fear, where the fear of death stems from. There are many forms of death. They all lead to non-existence one way or another.

that i was freaked out in a place that has no measurements, no time or space and i was reduced to a single thought, like i was condemned to the smallest and the most important piece of existence, being essentially non-existance, yet not death.
i don't know what death is but that was scarier and greater. it was not an end, it hadn't ever begun, it just WAS. a rabid dog eating itself, a snake swallowing its own tail.

that's exactly why it is "called" non-existence by our linguistic center in the brain. i don't think i can comprehend it on a sufficient level for me to articulate it.
and i don't feel the need to make myself understandable to others by it, words only confuse and muddle the memory of it.

"It seems there is something rather than nothing, Non-existence does not exist. I'm trying to explain the essence of Fear To get a realization of what I consist."
Those are actually lyrics from one of my favorite albums.
I once heard it while tripping and understood it very deeply somehow.

during the tail end of that trip i asked my sitter to put on my pantera cd and "Immortally Insane" started playing. there was nothing more horrifying than to listen to this:

Immortally insane Immortally insane Immortally insane Immortally insane

Exactly, I don't understand why folks say believers in the afterlife are just afraid of non-existence at death.
An eternal individuated consciousness and continuous re-embodiment seems far more frightening...

Wht fabricate such a fairy tale unless there is fear of cessation? There is no evidence to back up such a story and no other reason makes sense.

Oh, non-existence exists for sure. I always keep repeating this. Think of a dried-out river. Then I usually say, I am happy for the non-existing nuclear-plant in my garden. And I am sad about my non-existing girl-friend, which keeps visiting me almost every day.
