Im not sure when my straw will be fully colonized.

I broke up some BRF cakes into some straw. Its worked out so far. I just don't know when its done. How can I tell? There seems to be a block of mycelium, but there is still un colonized straw. Can I leave it in the incubater indefinitly? What if I just leave it for 2 weeks or something?

This is why brf makes poor spawn to straw, it doesn't colonize looser substrates to well. Cakes in my opinion need a loose but compact bulk sub, coir/coffee grounds to be precise. Whenever my friend spawned to hpoo/straw it would leave huge gaps and wouldn't colonize the large sized straw. It fruited alright but just not what I had originally expected.

Yah! I guessed that would happen too, but I didn't have anything els as a substrate and my cakes were dying. So there are parts of the straw un colonized, should I just case it anyways? Its kind of a hack job, but heh. If it produces 10 grams il be happy.

100% straw is a hard to colonize ... not saying it won't work... but personally ive only had luck with it one time i normally mix with poo also..the poo helps the process out... next time you want to go bulk... think about using poo and straw together. and then get u some wbs to colonize with..... use this as a learning process
