so i did my current mono a little differently and took 15 qrts of sub and mixed it with 3 qrts of spawn and put that in the mono. then i took 1 qrt of sub and i qrt of spawn and mixed that together and applied over the top of the 18 qrt sub/spawn mix to aid as a contam barrier.
my quetion is i know tha top is going to colonize extremly fast. which it has already.
how long do you guys think i should wait after the top colonizes for the bottom to catch up before i add my casing layer?

ive been seeing this question come out alot in the last few days... its one of those things you have to use ur eyes and ur brain. u know when the jars are 100% ....don't you? so it stands to reason that u are going to know when ur sub is 100% right?

ahh no. the top is a 1:1 ratio and the bottom is a 1:5. so it wouldnt be the same as a jar. i cant shake my mono to evenly distribute it either.

some case when they spawn their grains to the sub some case when the sub is fully colonized and after knots begin to form. its really all up to you, but many say "late casing" is awesome.
i have little experience with casings because i used to use straw. giving coir a try now with chicken poo and worm poo boosters cut with verm and gypsum. last mono i did this way had the most beautiful pin-set ive ever seen. it was late cased and i was impressed.

A friend applies his casing material when the bulk is near 95% done, since the casing layer needs to be colonized the sub with the casing layer will be finished within a few days of adding it.

so you did not evenly distribute the grain when you laid it down. the truth is that you not going to know if you cannot see the substrate underneath ur 1:1 ratio.. mycelium colonizes at different speeds ..... i was using the jar as an analogy cause you know when its 100% so you should look for the same thing in ur substrate. i would wait about 7 days if the top is colonized then case 3 days later patch case
