Like tahoe says...it turns into a cake...bigger mushrooms don't mean jack shit...its just moisture based...and yes I've tried it and i don't like it....why I don't like it? The Way It Pins...the way it consolidates the entire casing layer because of its nutrients...The way you can easily contaminate if your not careful...

Got this from a post made by a guy named Sammy, it's simple and works great:(sorry I'm lousy at giving links)

Using 5 cups of jiffy mix (already ph balanced right out of the bag)

Take 4 1/2 cups and get fully hydrated. After draining well add the other 1/2 cup mix well. Now you are at 90% hydration.

You can pasteurize however you want. Microwave works well at this point in the game.

It's easy and works!

What do ya think? I'm pretty happy with my results after doing cakes once. This is just 3 PF cakes crumbled and cased with 1/3 peat moss to potting soil;)

Why 100% Coir Casing Stinks IMHO
1. It Overlays Easily.
2. It Turns Into A Huge Cake.
3. Too Many Nutrients.
4. The Problems Initiating Pinning.
5. The Texture.
6. Less Yield Then Peat/Vermiculite/Lime/Gypsum.
7. Uneven Pinning.
8. Dries Out Fast.
9. The Cost!
10. OVERLAY!!

Thanks, that's pretty much what I was hoping to hear.
After using the wrong mix, I put it into the FC a little too soon.

Then I had a nice little weekend in jail to do for MJ poss.

When I came back my GF hadn't given any FAE and all my cakes were covered in thick mycelium.

But I'm pleased with the results and am moving onto a monotub after I get isolates from some PF tek EQ's and TC's:scaryshroom:

No worries, I just moved to another county for college and haven't changed my legal address. I probably won't until my license is unrestricted, then I don't have to pay the fine early.

You've already covered what you've read about coir casings and you've already seen that people can have success with them. Stop beating a dead horse. :banghead:

does anyone know if coir will contaminate after i add my spawn to it and incubate it for the mycelium to get to the top for a good pinset? do i need to sterilize it before that like any other substrate? doesnt coir have nutrients in it? do any of u just get the water content right and mix it together

it needs to be pasteurized. i have read some people just getting the water content right and using it, but i wouldnt. you run a huge chance of it contaminating.
