Over near Arlington and just west of that. Does anyone know anything about the area? From what I've been reading, the cost of living seems pretty high. I am going for an interview and if I get a job, I'll be needing to get a place near there to live. Keep in mind I'll probably only be making between 55k and 65k (entry level).
Any thoughts?

Yeah.. its expensive as fuck to live here. Probably the rich parts of socal and new york city being only slightly more expensive. I grew up in Falls Church/Fairfax without a college education or super high paying job or rich ass parents like most of the kids around here.. so I am well acquainted with the high cost of living. I've only lived alone once.. in an efficiency apartment in the "ghetto" (ie- no mansions) of falls church.. that cost $850 a month for rent alone, and that was the cheapest I could find. Everywhere else I have had to rent a room in someones basement, or find a ghetto old house and split the rent with like 4 friends.. but you know how that goes. This was the coolest house I ever lived in.. we did the decorations ourselves.. you can probably go see it unless they've torn it down by now to build some super mansion... which they probably have.. right next to the post office in vienna. But oh did we have some good times in that old ass fucking house.

But if you're making 55k+ you should be fine... just don't live above your means. I've never made anything close to that and I've done ok. Struggled hard many times.. yes. But survived. The cost of living is much higher here but the jobs also tend to pay a lot more. The good tech jobs anyway... Needless to say someone who is making minimum wage flipping burgers or whatever absolutely cannot survive on that income... which is why you will find everyone working the minimum wage jobs is spanish and they live generally 10 people to an apartment. Sad but true. You need to be making at least $10-12 an hour to make it here, and that's cutting it real close. The more the better. And yeah I've done some travelling and other places are much cheaper but I don't have as many friends or family in all those places and none of them feel right.. this is my home. For now.

No worries. Welcome to Yuppie hell and CIA central. You can pretty much guarantee that every other person you see is a government employee in some form or another. However.. what did we used to say. Something about how you are safest from the tyranny of the empire from within the castle walls. Beware of men in black
