lipstick mold, i've read the contamination list and there isn't much info. i know most of you will say that if you get it, trash it (which i agree with). however, i did some searching around and strains of this type of mold are used to make numerous cheeses, and i found somewhere that they use this mold to extract its' "fruity" scent to use in things. another site mentioned that it repels pathogens. does anyone have a link or any specific knowledge of this type of contaminate? can it be proven without a doubt that this is actually dangerous stuff. i know it's better safe than sorry but i'd like to be able to find a more scientific explanation.

The only advice or sorts in regards to "lipstick" mold is simply the very fact that it is a "competitive organism". It doesn't matter what kind of mold it is. Molds produce spores by the billions. The very fact that a mild air current can send billions of spores flowing throughout the entire grow room, stick to your clothes and contaminate every room in your house is enough to close the discussion. If you are a serious mycologist/hobbyist you will know that the risk is not worth it. I don't want my mycelium COMPETING WITH ANYTHING. Let me give you a visual example......
I left 2 petri dishs open for 5 minutes in a room adjacent to my grow room. (ON PURPOSE!) I did this to get an idea of the level of contaminants in my house.
This is what the Petri dishs looked like one week later.
Do I really want that crap in my jars? Do I want my future time and money to go to waste because I thought I could beat some kind of contaminant? Hell no! I trash them at the first sight! No questions asked. Sorry for the rant..... Hope I shed some kind of light
