400hps too much for 4sqft? I have 400CFM exhaust?
    #8017965 - 02/13/08 02:37 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Would having 100 watts per sq foot be over kill if AFAOF had sufficient exhaust to keep temps down?

you can never have too much light ,as long as you can exhaust out the heat, which you already stated, more light =denser, bigger more potent nugs

Probably a little over kill yes, but if you could keep the temperature down easily then by all means do it. A 250 watt light would probably be more common in such a space but I have used a lamp that big before in an area that size and have had excellent results. It really depends on how you are growing though, the 400w lamp will be a lot better at penetrating the top canopy and giving light to the lower levels. So it comes down to how tall, what kind of plant (an indica/indica dominant will be denser and need a stronger light to reach the lower levels), and how you plan on training you plant. But if you can fit a light that size and easily keep it cool and not mind the difference in electrical use or price difference, I say do it.

AFOAF plans to keep train it to bush out or to fim it. Their white widow clones. He plans to rig up a cheap improv hydro apparatus of some sort most likely ebb and flow or a bucket system. He already has meters and what not but has never grown hydro before.

Do you guys think this 400cfm fan will be enough to ventilate a dresser thats enclosed with the lamp in there and the ballast outside? It wouldn't be an air cooled hood just ventilate the entire dresser out of a carbon scrubber? My friend I believe uses this same fan to ventilate a larger space with a larger light so I was thinking it would be cool. Any other bits of advice you would like to share? Ill be shure to keep you guys posted. The height of the area is at almost five feet so hell be keeping them shorter. The reason hes not going with a smaller light is because this is the light he has.

Not over kill. But its said that 100 watts per sq meter is the most you want to do. Anymore is not effective. So Ive been told.

He also plans to use co2 environment regulation during budding cycle. So some of the light should be put to use.

he should make sure he has a hood that can be attached to an inline 6" or 8" fan. Also with this hood, he should install a glass panel in order to cool the bulb efficiently.

tell your friend that with co2 you will want your temps slightly higher than with out it:yesnod: which should actually work in your friends favor

Build yourself a cool tube and you shouldn't have any temperature problems.

Like this but use an actual reflector. (Google "Pyrex Bake A Round Cool Tube")

Well, you can have more than you need, the plants have a higher limit to what they can use.

Any idea what diameter that venting is they're using there? The fit looks to be perfect.
