As follow up to a previous post, I was about to dunk a not fully mature cake And I could distinct to smells a yeasty but shroom smell??
I wasn't sure, so I trashed it... Cut it in half and noticed the pearly white is only on the outside of the cake???? The inside was just mainly brf with vermiculite
Always thought the myc would be fully white troughout the whole cake.
anyone a pic f a half cake?

It should be done all the way through... you rushed it too soon. Your cake was not done. The PF-tek states to wait an extra week AFTER you think its 100% colonized to ensure that exaclty this wouldn't happen. Before you take each step, study up on the tek your useing!

should be done all the way ok, but when I cut it thought it be a completely white on the inside similar to the outside In my case growth stopped in this cake so I knew it was not 100% done, instead of trashing it immediatly I thought, maybe I can rinse it and dunk? Not trusting it a 100% when opened the jar, I cut it in half.
The inside was brownish (BRF/vermiculite) but you could see the myc all the way through.

.... still hoping to see a cut in half rice cake. yeah stupid stupid stupid me, forgot to take a pic myself and show if normal.
Short update, the cut in half EQ cake now freezing in my garbage outside. The other cake OI, I thought I might have killed does seem to some recovery. The sides of the jar already looked 100% white, the bottom however shows some white but are mainly BRF coloured. I marked the outer lines of white mycelium (on the outside of the jar off course) and it seems in one spot mycelium past that line this afternoon.
So there is some hope 1 of my first 2 cakes will make it

dont ever throw it away unless its contammed. if only half of your cake was colonized when u birthed it then just remove the uncolonized part and place it in the FC

Seeing the picture of how it shouldn't look
I'm starting to think I really messed up on first attempt. Dumb-ass me, why did I follow instrunctions so blindly Things I think that went wrong, to much water as somebody suggested after pressure coocking the cake was really packed together. Incubator at the wrong location so temperature got up to high To impatient and start poking around in the cake. (from the outside of the jar)
my equador cake had a 1-2mm thin layer of white myc on the outside and was completely brownish on the in side, I did see something but it wasn't white. The "crappy" cake in the picture looks 300% more colonised then mine
My good hope for the Orissa cake I had left is out of the window... Will wait 2 more days if nothing ,more happens I'll start cutting it and take some damn pictures
I have some freshly incubated cakes standing around now and hope that will be a better succes. I moved the incubator and going to build a "better" one this weekend, the cakes are not so wet as last time followed the intructions and used some common sense this time

that cake dried out and stopped colonizing. it didnt contam. I do not get contams.
This is why you should let your cakes colonize for another week after you visibly see 100%. The top under the verm layer is the last to colonize.
This is another reason why you shouldnt use cakes for spawning to bulk. The cake can appear to be fuilly colonized but once you crack it open there will be uncolonized substrate. That is no bueno
