Agar and LC caramelization

I just made some MDA agar using the recipe on sporeworks.
10g Agar
10g Dried Malt Extract
500ml dH20
I Mixed it all up, and PCed it for 30min at 15psi, being very careful not to let it get over 15... for most of the time it was actually a little under. After the time was up I turned the stove off and let the PC depressurize before opening it up. I took it out and there is a bunch of shit floating in the bottom of it and is layered toward the bottom where it looks like the agar is in higher concentration. What the hell happened? I followed the tek exactly. I think it is probably caramelization of the sugars. How can I prevent this? Can I steam sterilize like I do with my LCs? This happened last time too, but I used it anyway cause I didn't want to deal with making another batch. Every time I try to make agar or LC in my PC I seem to get caramelization no matter how careful I am about the time/pressure. Help!

those chunks are fine. Dont big deal them. it isnt caramelization.
Well it might be but it is nothing to worry about.

you need to wait until the pc is almost cool. and pour the agar just a few minutes before it gets to thick to pour.

other wise you will ahve a shit load of condensation in the petris and there will be water rolling around on top of the agar which is very bad for contams.

the water doesnt cause contams but most contams enter petris at the edge of the dish. When teh dish is dry it isnt a problem. when they are wet teh wter rolls to the side and picks up the contams and spreads them around the dish.

anyways, the sw recipe is good, your description of the agar is good.
