It was the blue bruising and the stipe that made me curious..

Habitat: Just on various lawns

Gills: The gills are free, a white/cream colour

Stem: Enlarged slightly at base. Brown.

Cap: Flat. Brown nipple on top, brown edges - light brown fir the rest. A few dark spots.

Spore print color: Brown i think? Heres a picture:

Bruising: Blue

Location: Brisbane

These were taken after a little while more of some similar shrooms - i think they are the same, they have dried out a bit. The caps are not flat like the previous pictures but its been raining quite a bit so it could just be damaged?

That is a poisonous mushroom, Chlorophyllum molybdites, "Green Gills".

Don't even think about eating it...

All of those are rather old, they are much more white coloured when fresh.

Spore print colour is green.  Old mushrooms tend not to print because they have already dropped all of their spores.  The brown you are seeing is just staining from the gills onto the paper.

Very nice job on the ID request!  Thanks for reading the rules, and welcome to the Forum!

also, when looking for blue bruising, look for:

This is an active species that grows around there, psilocybe cubensis.
Peace!!!

Man I've handled quite a few cubes, but is that blue for real?

My blue fingers were never anywhere near the ink you have there...

Hey farmer, that's a nice little cube trap you have there. I didn't find those cubes, yessup did, but I believe the stuff on his hands is purple spores from the mushrooms.

Cube traps make cube pops, fun at parties.

Still ready to be corrected but the blue on that photo is just a bit out there. Looks enhanced, photo-shopped or ink added. Cube spores are more black-purple on the hands.

Alan posted a thread on IRC from shroomtalk of MJ being crazy

By the way, Look at the Paul Stamets photo of the blue-staining stemmed P. baeocystis, which was painted onto the stem. -mjshroomer

and here is a real true bluing in P. baeocystis which is natural.

Aparently MJshroomer has info on Paul Stamets bringing blue paint on hunts :justdontknow:

Yup, I've seen MJ's criticism of that photo... Always seemed odd to me, since John is an experienced hunter, I just figured he has seen bruising/staining much like in my photo and Pauls.

I mean, if either of us were photo shopping, why wouldn't we go ahead and do the rest of the stems blue as well?

The full text of the post that got me banned is here:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7419828#Post7419828

It was replaced with the text "go back to the shroomery"

Which is exactly what I didn't do. I've been banned from shroomtalk six times, working on a seventh.

I'm amazed that MJ is still held in high esteem by some.  He clearly lost his marbles long ago.  GGreatOne blew a gasket when I questioned the utitlity of MJ's subbalteatus guide.

Well all the background and politics is interesting but still this photo is just wrong. If you look closely the most blue is on the high spots...like it has been rubbed on. It's bogus man. It's just the wrong color anyway, am I missing something? Can you improve a cube?, Why would you bother trying?

It is not bogus. You must not have been around when YESSUP was. Too bad. He was the Texas cube master.

I really think mushroom color and blueing has a lot to do with flash and natural lighting and stuff... I can never get vivid blueness to show up on camer a :OI

YESSUP is probably one of the nicest gentleman on the face of the earth...I believe you, but I don't see the relationship between someone's hunting credentials and this photo. All I'm commenting on is at the photo.

Why isn't it blue-est where all my cubes are, where the damage is? I don't use a blade or scissors when hunting, just my my thumb nail and after a kilo or so it has never looked like the fingers in the photo. I'm commenting on the photo that's all, it doesn't stand scrutiny. That's all I have to say on the matter.

Somehow Paul Stamets got a hold of the photo and made the mushrooms look more heady.

doesnt macro mode on the camera also enhance colors as well as giving good focus for minute objects/targets?
i've always found pictures are far more vivid on macro (the one with the flower icon... you know)

It's not the wrong colour, its the perfect colour of blueing. If the mushrooms are submitted to a bout of coldness or heat or any other stressing, they'll blue naturally and not just where the damage is.
