http://rael.org/rael_content/index.phpBasically its a UFO cult where its members believe we were designed by hyper intelligent alien species that was created by other aliens and so on and so forth. They believe in peace and love and meditation and all that good stuff, but they also believe that through cloning and genetic engineering, we will someday be able to live forever and that our minds will be able to be backed up digitally and then put into our new cloned bodies. They are closely related to a company that claims it can safely clone humans and pets ( In countries where it is legal ) called Clonaid but their is much controversy surrounding this company and its claims because information about the subjects and clients are sensitive and can be used against the clients. All in all its a nice little cult, seems interesting to me. Quote:
Vorilhon and his Raelian movement, which claims 55,000 members in 84 countries, have garnered a torrent of publicity worldwide since an offshoot company, Clonaid, claimed on Dec. 27 to have created the world's first human clone.

I would have imagined that their interests in cloning would pertain to the possibilities for creating new life, which might make possible the creation of a new species to whom they themselves could play benefactor, as their alien creators did before them, and their alien creators' alien creators and so on..
But I suppose as is the case in religion, followers are looking for some kind of path to eternal life.
Short-sighted hope on their part, they should go for playing God with new life-forms.

Maybe it's all the Star Trek I've watched, but the premise of this cult doesn't seem too outlandish to me.

Anytime you join a cult you abdicate your personal freedom and responsibility and turn it over to others. It doesn't matter what the premise is.

A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

It's one of the only cults or religions (aside from buddhism) that catches my interest.
I contacted the company that the raelians are affiliated with and asked how much it is going to cost to get myself cloned.
Quote:
Dear <My Name>, Thanks for your interest in Clonaid and the human cloning technology. Our service fee is in the range of $100,000 to $200,000 depending on the case. Sincerely, Stacey Thompson www.clonaid.com
So im going to have to save up some money, this will be a long term goal for me.

The founder of the cult is , I believe, french. Anyways , he was invited to some french-canadian talk-shows , because this whole cult took a lot of space in the local media at that time. He got totally demolished and disrespected by everyone on stage. He left early.

Well it's in french. But the second half has Serge Chapleau, "cartoonist" for a local newspaper, treat him like crap. You can judge by the reactions of the crowd. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x11l90_rael-vs-serge-chapleau_people
In the video , he states his opinion on democracy , which , according to him , should only see people with 50% more IQ than average be elected , and people with a IQ 10% over the average to vote...
