High temperatures.
    #8015087 - 02/12/08 09:11 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I've had some shrooms spawning in temperatures of about 90 F for a couple of days, is it possible that I have killed them already?

What breed? is it a tropical species?
I had some stuff in my furnace room (gets really hot) they were fine till I forgot about them for like 4 weeks and they got mummified.

Spawning? Or colonizing? It takes a lot of excess heat to kill spores... you almost have to try. Myc can start to degrade after 106f (55c) and inch closer to total death- and spores start to break down around 122f. I am sure strain and other factors could float a few degrees here and there.

Main factor people forget is how long were they exposed to the high temps. Thats the killer.

I don't heat my grows anymore. a 72 room temp with core temps up +5 there isn't much need IME. I use heat to negate the cold, nothing extra. I I don't mind waiting an extra few days on some qts when there are dozen that need to be spawned. Once you have your grain prep down by the touch, you get a bigger window to get your jar finished before the millions of mold endospores still left in your grains germinate.

well the short answer is draw a line on the jar at the leading edge of some growth, if it's moved in a couple days it's ok.
google fruiting conditions temperature for each species to see if you've caused thermal death.
damn...wht the hell is 90 in C?
Stamots has a great book on fruiting conditions....but by the time you find it your line on the jar will tell you what you need to know...
just be patient....either it's dead or it's not.
Damn I used to have that book.

B+ there...."Colonisation temperature: 28-30°C
Cropping temperature: 23-26°C "
You'll have to do the temp conversions

Quick question on heat. Is there any big reason why you have to wait 6 hours or more for your jars in the PC to cool down? Whats wrong with say 2 hours when they cool enough to handle?

Sorry not trying to jack this thread I just didn't want to make a thread for this and I had trouble using the search button.

I handle my jars as they are still steaming.... I have a thing that I MUST shake my jars ASAP after Pcing.. I don't like then cooling off if they have a lopsided water content.. I like to quickly shake them, let them cool below 120 (the core) then hit them up.

And vooling them down inside (cooling from the core and the outside is whats happening) can ensure a slow cooling off- that helps your water content and grain integrity.

Oh, I mean colonizing.
The temperature was just a bit above 30°C, nothing crazy, I think I'm going to turn my heating mat on as I live in a hot place.
