The psychedelic mindset, and patheticness
    #8014623 - 02/12/08 07:38 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

Whenever I trip, I often see people's accomplishments, and every day things as a lot more pathetic that they would seem like normally.

It oftentimes has the opposite affect as well. I will see things that are fairly easy to do, and fairly normal as grand accomplishments. Things that amaze me.

Where the patheticness hits home with me though, is when I'm listening to people's opinions. Even though most of the time I don't actually feel this way, I'll think it. Some one will say "our economy sucks" or something like that, and I'll just think "wow, thats so stupid and pathetic." without actually feeling that way.

Anyone else experience this?

Haha..

I totally feel you. I don't even like to think it about it. Makes my stomach sink like right before a bad trip.

Can't explain it.

While I'm tripping my priorities do shift and what I consider important changes somewhat. I become more of an idealist. But you can't stay in that mindset forever because you will constantly be disappointed. There is benefit to "standing on the mountain" to see the valley below, but you can't stay on top of the mountain forever.

You also can't take everything that you experience while tripping seriously, just as you can't take everything that happens to you sober seriously. I've had some incredibly profound and insightful thoughts and visions while tripping, and some confusing, depressing, and inaccurate ones as well.

You have to sift out what is most useful from all experiences. You benefit from the psychedelic experience when you are able to view things from another set of eyes, and take what is useful back with you to sobriety.

I'll often think negative things about people and have no real basis for doing so. Someone will say something and it just pops into my head 'that's stupid' and I really don't feel that way at all. I always analyze, or try to, every negative though towards others that comes into my head as I'm tripping and 99% of the time there is no basis for it at all. I'd like to think this decreases the amount of bad thoughts I have towards others, but I dunno..

That's strange. It's probably your subconscious telling you something and you haven't deciphered it. In my experience the subconscious often speaks a different language than the conscious and they can't always understand each other.

i appreciate this thread, i know exactly what you mean.

at the extremes, it just seems like humans are pathetic, vein, arrogant, narcissistic, fleshy blobs. And the things they tote as accomplishments are just as pathetic as they are.

its just as bad as feeling that way about yourself.

also, subconscious thoughts, reasonable or unreasonable can greatly influence your emotions, especially while tripping

maybe i'm just running my mouth

I normally ponder who people invest so much energy, and spend so much time idolizing things that are worthless if not even harmful to the soul. I get puzzled how people can value things that are so petty, and so meaningless in the end. I feel a sense of freedom to be broken away from that. I also find a greater sense of appreciation in commonly overlooked things. I become puzzled how people can take something so beautiful like a blade of grass for granted, the intricacies involved in its existence, it's sheer energy is incredible to me. A simple object even will take on a new light, even the ground that I walk on I develop a new sense of gratitude for. I begin to appreciate the little things in this world, and can't help but feel bad for those who live their life chasing after materials and things that are of no soulful value in the end.

And then balance that with a Bic lighter, a pocket sized, hand held version of man's oldest and greatest invention. So many things have to come together to make one. Without this empty, heartless system, you still might be able to create one, but it would probably take about a month and at least $1000.

Actually, without the system, you'd have to gather lots of pelts and pretty rocks to trade for what you want. Fuck that.

Hehe...I tend (tripping or no) to see humans as animals, as mammals no different from any other beast that roams the Earth. It makes me cackle that we are so impressed with ourselves as a "higher species" when we still possess such beastlike characteristics.

Monkey's are funny!

It is like all of our "accomplishments" are attempts to distract each other from the painful part of exsistence.

I used to look down on mankind. From their idiotic TV to their sucker politics. I thought, for the most part, they are petty and superficial. Psychedelics have had kind of the opposite effect on me. I think I now have a better appreciation of man kind and what an the individual can do. And the goodness that is in us all, even when we learn to ignore it.

i've lost interest in the things the majority of people talk about. it just seems useless and pointless to go on and on. i can't really relate to most of the people but that's the way i want it. i don't want to be like them.. talking about the football game, politics, work, people, blah blah. it is such a drain and waste of energy.

that is a very positive and open way of putting it.

i just cannot communicate in their language, it doesn't work no matter how i try.  this goes for the majority of extroverted people, there is more of a connection with introverts.  but there are fewer of them.

i just feel it would benefit me more if i do not associate with people who speak this other language.  this isn't saying i hate who they are.

note to self: love everybody and every language

Yeah, I hear you on that dude.  I've been learning how to transmute energy and being conscious of what I send out and when others don't have an interest in managing heavy vibes it can throw me off a bit.  It's hard enough dealing with my stuff; I don't need other people's stuff too, you know, although I do enjoy working through it all with people as long as everyone is open to growth.  Fortunately transmutation is all about taking energy and turning it around, even the energy other people send out.

At the same time I have become more aware of the concept of "seeing your shadow" in other people.  The things I don't jive with in other people are the things that I need to work on myself with, usually.

it takes a while to see that attitude is at play
attitude is when you forage for evidence
like a fox scratching the underbrush to chase out the grouse.
sometimes the grouse is there sometimes not, but poking about down there means the fox is looking for grouse.

same thing with hunting patheticness.

or anything else for that matter,
you put on your mask to scrutinize whether or not there is patheticness, and voila! you either discover it, or the traces of it's recent trail. (what a clever fox!)

this is good to learn from.
all the little attitude habits. (everything we have learned to do is really sequences of attitude)
very very useful when getting things done, but most attitude is mere hollowness when you are not being useful.

a few attitudes are handy helpers while tripping, you have to find them for yourself.
the one that seeks patheticness is not that helpful except in highlighting what attitude is all about in general.

this is the thing, we speak on different wavelengths so receiving and transmitting and maintaining a steady communication wave is difficult. transmutation is something i will and am work on, but this pot definitely don't do me no good. it really spaces me out.

I've had those thoughts before, I tend to "see through" people alot more when I'm tripping and they're not. This doesn't happen when the only people around me are also tripping, I can normally finish their sentences.

There are those few people who's every breath, every word out of their mouth is some pathetic attempt to impress or one-up everyone else around them as if they were on some mission to validate their existence or live up to some standard engrained long ago. I suppose your subconscious mind really does hold the steering wheel and I can see where factors like abusive parents or friends, absent parents, etc can fuel these types of behaviors. Most people act ridiculous or pathetic though no fault of their own, keep that in mind.

Last night I stayed in and did the weed/music thing because I didn't feel like I would find anyone worthwhile at a party. The fact is, all kinds of people go to parties and I wouldn't meet anyone worth while because of my own attitude. I still enjoyed my night, which is what counts, but it's sharing your experience with other people that is what matters. Instead of bitching about how much the world sucks, we should be leading by example.

Misanthropy is so egotistical.

Judging humanity for its hideous flaws is just a way to ignore your own.

TV is really difficult to watch while tripping, but if you're on a light trip or you're on your way up or down, the news is horrible to watch (not that it's really any better sober).
