I have done coir with coffee grounds (80% 20%) .... and have read many posts where people have used coffee or coffee thinned with water to hydrate grains, substrates, etc.

Go for it.

Your can use about 5% or more used coffee grounds as an additive, its a source of nitrogen and possibly other nutrients.

Many people have been doing this for a long time..

I have used coffee/coir for most my grows. IMO there is definitely a difference between coffee and no coffee in my substrates. good stuff:thumbup:

Do you mean hydrating your grain or your cakes or re-hydrating/dunking a substrate or cakes... gotta specify man....

Anyway.

No I don't think just coffee will do much, although I remember people on mycotopia doing experiments dunking or re-hydrating with coffee, coke and other weird things to see if it improves their flushes.

i'm sure it would because when coffee is left out for any amount of time it will start to grow molds so it shouldn't hurt.

lol you mean hydrating with a hot pot of java dont you ? lol i couldnt say but i would guess it would boost the acidity of the coir .. but the nutes i believe remain in the actual coffee grounds .. someone please correct me if im wrong ..

Yes it would boost the acidity which is bad, and leave most of the goods in the actual bean, that is if he is even talking about beans.
Using just freeze dried coffee would not do much at all.

Thats because coffee is acidic and green mold loves acidic environments, anything low in PH like lemons and coffee is acidic.

Mycelium likes a neutral environment PH6-7 which is like pure water, spit, milk. Mold has a hard time growing in a basic or neutral environment PH7 - PH14. Thats why we put lime or calcium in substrates and casings.

i could be wrong here but isnt anything low considered alkaline and anything high acidic ? lol
