It's APOLLYPHELION'S CRAZEE METAPHOR HOUR with...Apollyphelion! Let's watch...
PSYCHEDELICS AS PAINTING-Inspired by the Post "Why do other drugs?" It was going to be a reply, however turned into my weekly article. Thanks for the spark! Anyanyway...
I kind of think of drugs like painting. Painting your consciousness, if you will with chemicals.
I tend to look at basic mind functions as "The Primary Colours": Imagination, meditation, prayer, humour, ect; Basic functions that colour life, usually for the better. As we all know, you can mix the primary colours and get any colour in return. These people probably don't even need drugs, or don't do psychedelics anymore because they know how to work the primary colours.
Psychedelics to me are like things that affect hue, brightness and darkness of your mind, or they are things that have the potential to alter your "inner consciousness painting" temporarily or permanently, depending on the users choices/biology. Superficial toners to alter baseline, also usually for the better. After tweaking thy inner painting with psychedelics, you might learn the following: How to mix the primary colours better, how to use the chemical to better affect hue, brightness and darkness of your mind, painting/brushstroke techniques you can use in sobriety.
So basically, I wouldn't give up the drugs I do right now (LSD, Salvia, Weed, Mushrooms) simply because there are so many artistic techniques contained with in them. I tend to think of Heroin, Crack, Alcohol and other hard drugs as very "dark, heavy and thick" colours/paintbrushes. Those art supplies are definitely NOT in my palette, however I enjoy and respect the fact people do them, as harmful it may be. They make the art gallery that much richer, that much more contrast. I'm not advocating the use of hard drugs, however their potential for art is just as great as psychedelics, but since you can't make art after an overdose, I'll stick with the less life-threatening drugs, thank you.
Back to those primary colours though:Humour, Imagination,Meditation, Intention, especially. I think there is much tasty brain soup to be made with these. If it is bad taste to contain a metaphor within a metaphor, I'm a black coffee man, myself. YOU can do anything thing with these things, really. It is one of the reasons I am in the camp of people who thinks you don't NEED drugs, however they are an aid. That is why in a way I consider psychedelics a deviation from traits such as these, for the mind is and has been proven to be an amazing thing without drugs. Salvia is crazy to me, for instance, because the deviation is hidden so well, masked by the effects, that it seems otherworldly. Which leads to an even more "brightened" or "hued" imagination when associating it against the "otherworldly trip" (perceived deviation)
So I know I don't need psychedelics, however I do them for they same reason people listen to or play music I suppose. This is not supposed to be a metaphor. Some people paint their psychedelic experience with words describing the inner workings of reality. I've read frat-house like trip reports. I've read trip reports that I had to stop reading for I felt them to be uber-personal. Wild stuff, even when trying to be objective and "sciency" as possible. It's like, there are more types of experiences or paintings to be made then there are drugs, Psychonauts! Some drugs crash your psychedelic rocket ship sooner than you may have wanted to...
So you have all these paintings of these drugs, mostly paintings composed of wiggly lines in column form on paper, paintings non the less. I try to appreciate everyones painting. There is enough room in this gallery for all of us. No matter how "dark and nasty" the painting (meth, crack in, my case-people may not l) there is always at least a unique, unseen brush stroke one can learn from and add to their array of techniques. Every painting IS special in SOME WAY. I must admit there are some paintings that may need removal from the gallery, and certainly many unfinished paintings. Yes, this brings the metaphor to an almost unworkable and retarded level, and I paint dreams.
So what is this article. I consider a painting, really. A la fyne art! However like art, I think the following might happen: Some one will believe what I say to contain truth, and "buy it", some will merely appreciate its tastes, however move on, others will critique it, others will acknowledge it. Some may have already seen this painting. Dude's just to remind you, this is about doing drugs. Your mind=colors Drugs=brightness, darkness, hue adjustment; they don't add colours, they alter colours.
So what kind of connoisseur of "mind art" am I? Well i buy a lot, lot, lot of stuff, because I think everyone has truths. I like funny paintings, walks on the beach, eating anchovies, well too many to list, huge gallery! This is where we end our journey of perhaps one of the most ridiculous metaphors ever conceived. However, maybe it will convince a straight-edge artist to consider more possibilities, or some crap. I'll probably throw this in the sketch pile, though.
I have Is it a Repeat? WTF? names!
