I think a subforum called 'global affairs' in political discussion would clean it up a lot and be usefull.

bad idea imo

Of course these issues are, to some degree, inherent in running a bulletin board and we can't expect to avoid them entirely. We're not going to sit on a good forum idea just because it might create a little more work for us. The problem is that the vast majority of forum suggestions are redundant because people come at it the wrong way. Instead of asking yourself "What would be a cool new forum?", ask "Which existing forums are overcrowded and how could they be logically split?"
o well, just a thought.

It'd just be kinda weird to have an entire politics forum broken down into "US" and "Rest of the World" with as many international users as there are here. If it was a minimal amount, it wouldn't matter, but close to 25% of the users here are apparently outside of the US, and that is relatively staggering. (Census 2008)

To run further with this though, a "Election 2008" forum would probably be a pretty good idea to put under the politics headings, considering there are bound to be TONS of threads related to this across the forums, and having them all in one place would definately reduce the onslaught of clutter.

I kind of like the idea of the global affairs forum. I don't find 25 percent of a population to be the least bit staggering and it would be cool to go to a place and read about issues relating to the rest of the world.
The main reason I feel this way is because there is a unique way in which news is divulged in the US as compared to the rest of the world. Basically, through the major outlets, world events are almost completely ignored. Couple that fact with the fact that a staggering 75 percent of this site's users are American, the political forum as it is is bound to be saturated with US news and events. To set aside a place where the rest of the world can discuss the events relating more to them and you will have a slower-moving forum where everybody will be able to have a chance to read and talk about those events before they slip to the obscurity of page 2.

I don't know man I think your idea holds to that standard.
