worried about a bench warrant

Around 5 or 6 months ago I missed a court date and a bench warrant has been issued for my arrest. The police have recently showed up at the residence on my id but after my mother spoke to them they haven't showed up since. I was arrested for something I wouldn't consider morally unjust and I plan on just waiting on the statue of limitations to take affect so I can not be charged with the crime.
There are currently over 25,000 people in the city with active warrants so I'm not TOO concerned that I'll get picked up and I know my cousins information and if a cop stopped me or pulled me over I could just give him that identity with that said should I turn myself in and face the punishment of something I don't think is a crime or should I do my best to stay out of trouble for 5 years and avoid the situation all together? Also anyone that's had experience in these situations before will police investigate bills that are in my name/on my credit rating and conduct warrant sweeps at those locations?

I'm assuming if you get pulled over, the cop will run your plate through the system...is your car registered to you? If so, and you give him your cousins information, I think you get yourself into a worse situation.
Can't really comment on the rest, I have no experience with this.

Don't go gettin a car anytime soon either. In Michigan the statue of limitations really doesn't mean shit. Trust me I just served my last day on my first poss. offence. And in a week a felony distribution charge.

Did you get pulled over in your car or did you get caught because you bought the car?

Your life will be a paranoid hell living under that stress. Statutes of limitations take years. It is better to turn yourself in and do the fine or the time. A few weeks or months in the county lockup is time enough to learn about meditation or a musical instrument....maybe brush up on your reading. I would look at it as an opportunity to exercise discipline and get to know myself better. Chill out. Its not that bad.

I was just commenting on the situations other people have told me about themselves while passing time on weekends in county jail. In Once you get about 60 miles north of detroit, (where the jails are full and everybody gets day for day) the cops and the courts are looking for crimes. Some of my friends have been surched because the car they were in "matches a drescription we have for a B&E". I've heard of; on election years police do "warrant sweeps" where they've known where you've been for 1-3 years and suddenly as you turn onto the next street on your way to work, you're pulled over and in jail for 3 months to a year.

the statute of limitations won't help you, almost certainly
this applies to when you may be charged with a crime, not when you must be convicted.
Once you are charged, unless your state says differently, you just get the regular ol' speedy trial guarentee, which you waive while you run
I'm not aware of any state in which the statute of limitations would allow you off the hook.
Most you can hope for is the evidence gets lost or the witnesses forget, become unavailable for trial.

cool beans
can they recharge you though?
Just like when they arrest you for a felony... they can dismiss the charges, gather evidence for five years, and come get ya then.
Usually the law is pretty much on the prosecution's side, though like I said, state law varies, so maybe there is something that would allow him to get off. (here we have a speedy trial statute, but this doesn't apply if the defendant misses a court date, untill he shows up and surrenders that time doesn't count.)
