A.muscaria?
    #8010835 - 02/11/08 08:42 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

growing from dirt, dead leaves and that sort of stuff around it, not sure what kinds of trees it grew under, someone kicked it over before i found it, so its a little banged up.

i cant find veil or remnants of volva, its been sunny in my area so it could be sun bleached, spore print is white. heres some pictures. also stem is solid, and i lost most of it because like i said it was kicked around and fell apart a little, no brusing at all.

p.s. maybe its russula genus??

Any way you can make the pics a bit bigger? Especially the second one.

I love kicking and smashing mushrooms.  It is the source of a lot of joy in my life.

I love everything about watching and hearing them explode into a million pieces.

I got to smash a HUGE Leucopaxillus albissimus against some stones after the Fungus Fair on saturday.  I stood on a rock, and threw it as hard as i could (cause this species is notoriously tough to break) against the stones.
It made a big "POP!!" sound and people were all quiet for a few seconds.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with smashing or kicking mushrooms (unless they are edible).  The L. albissimus was headed for the compost heap along with all the other mushrooms on display, anyway.  They rot and get eaten by bugs whether they get smashed or not.

Hi cactu,

I always figured that the mushrooms are for people to do what ever they want with them.

But realize, not everyone has a high respect for mushrooms (or anything really) as much as others do.

Nice Russula.

I very much respect mushrooms.

I realize that I am not harming the living organism by smashing a mature reproductive structure which will rot.  In fact, I may be helping its species by dispersing spores.

It's my way of celebrating mushrooms!

It is my guess that a Russula mushroom will spread more spores more successfully by just sitting in the ground where it belongs, then any other method.

Well either way, I'm still not harming the organism.  And I usually smash the old ones, so they have probably already dropped the majority of their spores.

One summer I saw somebody walk through a backyard kicking and smashing and ruining a couple dozen outdoor cultivation projects. It is just mycelium and mushrooms in my eyes, nothing all too special in a way, so it did not bother me much to see it being ruined. What did bother me was the gesture in itself. A person could celebrate the growth of a baby tree in front of a forest ranger just as kindly by ripping it out of the ground and tearing it into shreds. Oh well so be it. More will grow to teach another day.

THAT'S FUCKED UP!!!  I'D BE FURIOUS!

That is messed up on a number of different levels:

1.  They're edible, and SOMEONE could have enjoyed them even more than that ass hole!!  I don't destroy good edibles, i either pick them myself or leave them for someone else to find and enjoy.

2.  They were in someones backyard???  How and Why did that person get back there???  Someone put time and effort into that project, and was surely crushed to see them in ruin.  :frown:

3.  That idiot harmed the mycelium and destroyed the young mushrooms, from what I hear you saying!  That's SO not cool.

I usually step around young mushrooms to let them grow and drop spores, and head to the large ones to have fun kicking.

I hope you weren't comparing me to that jerk.  Unless to explain what not to do.  That was somebodies project.  That's like going and smashing someones old car that they're working on fixing up as a hobby, just because it's fun...

They were Psilocybe cubensis. On the third flush.

Psychotic bitch, asshole, clueless, ugly, overly-obnoxious, all would be suitable terms.

Then again, those are traits that many people seem to actually appreciate.

I watched that happen without a care in the world.

And I still do not care. And neither did those mushrooms.

hehe, the times I'm in the forest under the influence of psychedlics I often find myself muttering 'sorry', 'oops' and other things to myself as I accidently step on mushrooms and other things, hehe. It shows alot about ones character how they react to benign plants/animals that encounter us in the forest.

Oh, I don't like stepping on things. I feel really bad when i accidentally crush snails. If i see slugs or snails crawling in harms way, I move them aside, off of the path or wherever. Same when i step on a plant, it sucks but not as much cause they don't feel it like animals.

Sometimes I find myself randomly beatboxing for some reason, if I've been wandering around for too long.
