i was wondering if it would work if i used some jello mix in my agar to make it darker so i can see the myce easier. like make agar like normal but add some dark purple or blue jello powder in it. this way my petri would look almost black and i can see the white myce easier.

Jello can be used as a agar substitute but it does not hold its structure longer then 3 days I think that's what I read about it.
Either way, it does break down alot quicker then agar would so you would need to have alot of spare time to keep transferring out the fastest growth which can be abit of a pain in the ass to be honest with you. I usually use the sixth to eight transfer before I spawn it to grains and then use G2G as a mass transfer method.
All the luck to ya man, but a package of agar is fairly cheap. $8 the brand name I know of is Edan Agar and it's available in most nutritional/food supplement stores.

Get a jar of agar agar and boil some potatoes. If you want color, play around with food coloring, it works fine. I used to use it for color cordination with LCs.

i was going to suggest food coloring also. It should work.
If you are having trouble seeing mycelium on agar just think about how hard it would be to see black mold on black agar.

You can see the mycelium fine with regular agar. There's no need to color it. The mycelium is right on the surface. RR

What if you had some condition and the color of your standard agar put you into a depressive state? What would happen to your projects? No need to ruin your life because you are having color issues.
