couple of questions

Im trying to start a very small grow using a basic hydroponic system...my question is, what is the minimum requirment as far as lighting goes, im shooting for maybe 2-3 med. sized plants, so it'll be inside a pretty small space.
What types of lighting are needed to complete the entire process? i was looking at HPS lights and goddamn they're expensive...would one like this be sufficient? MOD EDIT:no non sponsor links
and what other places can i find cheap, effective lighting for this type of small grow?
i dont know much about lighting with this kind of stuff so please help me on deciding what lights i'll be needing.
thanks in advance

What are you growing? MJ? For MJ you need roughly 2000 - 3000 lumen's per sq. ft Metal halide is good for vegetative growth - 18+ hours of light needed a day HPS are good for flowering and okay for vegetative - 12 hours of light needed a day

well I'm not growing a cactus or a mushroom, m j is what I'm trying out.
what i really need to know is the basics on lighting, like when to introduce what kind of light and when to change to different lighting as the plant grows
like i said previously, I'm looking for the cheapest lighting solution to grow high quality nuggets(QUANTITY makes no difference, I'm not trying to do some huge grow operation here)
so basically, what is the cheapest way to get thru this grow (by cheapest, i mean the cheapest lighting)
I'm drunk...sorry if that doesn't make much sense. I've got the hydro system worked out, so the only issue is that I'm on a tight budget, i want to do it the right way, just the cheapest way
thanks in advance (AGAIN)
what are some good companies to order the necessary bulbs/ballasts in the cheapest price range?

well if you want the cheapest solution for lighting you should go with CFLs or Fluorescent tubes... and for a lighting schedule from the time the plant is a seedling to the size you want it to be keep it on 18 hours light 6 hours dark.... when you have reached the plant size you want switch to 12 hours light 12 hours dark to initiate flowering then it will take anywhere from 8 - 12 weeks to flower and you have your bud...

look up hid cfls, thee are ones that plug into a normal light socket that are up to 200 watts, hps and mh are just much more efficient using the lumens per watt formula
i wouldnt use regular cfls, u might try getting some t8 shop lights, they should be two deep at the least if you can figure out what im saying
