having a stupidly difficult time obtaining pre-sterl syringes and needles

I've been to 5 different pharms (big-box store ones, grocery store ones, and a ma/pa type place) around town looking for what I thought would be the most basic item they could possibly dispense. I go in, tell em I need a couple pre-sterilized 18 or 16 guage needles and decent sized syringes for a cultures experiment I'm doing for my bio lab (i'm in a college town). First they look at me like I'm from a different planet, like the thing I've requested is highly foreign and unknown to humankind. I explain they don't even need to be of a specific size... something between 10 and 30 mL will do just fine. After consulting the rest of the staff, they answer with a high degree of question in their voice that either a) they don't stock them or b) they are only available by prescription.
I've purchased the things before from other pharmacies in my home town (same state) with no trouble! Walked in, told them what I wanted, and they rang me up right there. no script, no stupid questions, no sweat. My LCs are almost done, and the only means I'll have to dispense their contents will be sterilizing and reusing my 1 almost-empty spore syringe (rest are still full).
Given you can buy them online without a script, and anyone over 18 (whos not in restricted states) can buy spore syringes and the like which can then be reused for the same purpose when empty, I have trouble beleiving that a prescription is required. Can somebody help me out here? Is there some magic words I need to say when I get in there that they'll understand better?

Walk up and ask for a case of BD 18ga. 1-1/2" syringe. They will give you a brown non-descript box with the syringe and needle attached in a sealed pack. There will be 100pcs. If you wish to purchase the needles and syringes separately it will cost a bit more but just ask them for a box of each.
The key is confidence. Just walk up and pretend like you know exactly what you want. Odds say you will have to ask them to order them in for you. Go to a smaller pharmacy. If they ask what you want them for tell them exactly what they are intended for.... intramuscular injections. They are used for more then just steroids these days
Good luck

All pharmacies ive been to say any syringe (the needle being the key part, they give away thhe droppers and what not for free where I love) requires a prescription unless its for diabetes in which case you need proof of your ailment. Anyways just look on the internet, you can buy anything on the internet... ^_^

You need to check the agriculture stores(the stores that serve farmers) they have everything. Farmers use the stuff all the time on their livestock. I can buy the stuff all day long at the Tractor Supply Company down the road from me.

well this is an agricultural town... guess i better check that out tomorrow. wouldn't they also have longer ones if I were interested in them? the first 3 LCs I made I didn't fill the jars very far up, so I'd like some extra reach to suck the stuff up with.
about to PM you resptodd... in case for some reason things don't work out there.
thanks guys -Jon
edit: i go in with PLENTY of confidence, being clean dressed, no shadyness, etc. I asked the first few for 10 or 12 mil, and just quit saying a specific size in hopes that the general principle would ring a bell. but i'll see how the ag stores go

farm supply stores carry 12ml syringes with needles for veterinary use. they even say "veterinary use only" on the syringe. but you dont have to be a veterinarian to buy them. search around for a grain or feed store.
