Dagga plantation destroyed

A dagga plantation worth R50 000 was harvested in Johannesburg yesterday, and the plants would be destroyed, police said.

Spokesman Captain Bhekisizwe Mavundla said community members from Berea alerted police about a plantation in Saratoga Street.

"The dagga was harvested and will be destroyed accordingly."

"There was no sole owner of the plantation as the dagga was growing on a land where many people are living," he said

In separate crime fighting operations nine people - including four Nigerians - were arrested for drug possession in Berea.

The drugs confiscated were cocaine powder, cocaine rocks, heroin and "the Thai white drug," said Mavundla.

Police were investigating cases of drug possession and drug dealing.

The nine were expected to appear in the Johannesburg and Hillbrow magistrate’s courts on Monday.
