That's not even that bad of a sentence especially since in the states that'd be possession with intent for the ecstasy and amphetamine. He then got caught later again and he resisted police. That's a slap on the wrist compared to what he could have gotten anywhere else.

That's a small sentence.

In UK prisons are full.
They need space for more serious crimes.
Murder and rape etc are more serious than someone selling or consuming drugs.

I'll agree its a step forward, with such a reduced sentence. But I just can't get past how they are saying "Ok you have an addiction to a substance, we will get you to rehab and get you help, but heres 32 weeks in CONFINEMENT! WOOOHOOO!!" How the HELL does that help the problem? Seriously, send him to rehab and get him back to life so he can continue on and be a normal citizen. Sending him to confinement to be alone and crammed into a cell is NOT HELPING ADDICTION TO A SUBSTANCE. Where is the crime here that warrants a PRISON SENTENCE. Prison is used to hold people that are otherwise a danger to the public and cannot be in contact with society. This drug user once through a rehad facility would be harmless and should be allowed back into society so he can continue on with his life.

If you ever felt like commiting crime, now is a good time for it.
It's a small sentence, but sadly now, all sorts of criminals, including violent criminals, are not being imprisoned.
The solution is not more prisons, because America has prooved just how ineffectual that is. (except that cheap prison labour is profitable. So what do they do? Make more prisons, and put people in them for smoking cannabis).

I heard less people in the Netherlands (per head ratio) smoke cannabis than in UK?
If thats true then it proves tolerance is a better option.
I've always agreed with complete legalization anyway. I think all drugs should be available on doctors prescription. This solves all drug related crime, cuts out the novelty value, cuts out drug pushers and cartels, stops profits being used to fund other crime AND I suspect would eventually seriously cut the rate of use for all drugs.
