Career Christian soldiers and family shock at wartime death
    #8007462 - 02/11/08 01:48 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I am not speaking of draftees, but of lifelong career soldiers.

I am not a Bible-thumper, but I clearly remember the line, "He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword."

So then why are Christian families in such shock & grief when a soldier/family member is fallen? The end result of solving problems through violence is laid out beforehand in The Book.

They don't care too much about living by god, they just expect that when someone goes to invade another country and kill those defending it, that the person invading will automatically be invincible and protected by god.

They fail to note that the people they are killing are even more faithful than they are, and to the same god.

By the way, could that quote also be condemning capital punishment?

"He who lives by the sword..."

No silly. That soldier lived by the M16. :smirk:

Because God is alway on their side, so they are shocked when their illusion loses substance.

I love boxers who sport garish Jesus and/or giant cross tattoos and kneel to pray before a fight:

"Dear Baby Jeebus,

Please help me to knock that fucker's head off and cause him untold pain, humiliation and brain damage. This I humbly ask in your merciful name.

Amen."
