they looks like cubes to me, kind of disappointing really. they are pan suphanburi from a vendor. i looked to on the boards to see if anyone had pictures from this variety in a similar stage of growth to no avail so i was hoping someone could break the news to me gently or give me some hope.
i have 2 large casings which are pinning and three quart jars of the excess compost/wbs that i made which are already shooting out fruits, here is an example of what i'm seeing:

aren't the caps a little too reddish/brown? although Workman says they caps start that way and become more grey/tan as they mature they just look so much like cubes i don't know what to think.
so what? cubensis contamination?

yeah i suppose it could be worse. they could be green and furry. all that aside, whatever they are, i'm about to have a lot of them. one of my casings looks like a forest of pins; a field of dreams, if you will.

pan sup from ralphsters (his pic, not mine)

They apparently grow pretty close to the same look as cubes. Id let em grow and eat a gram, if you trip your balls off then their pans.

glad you posted, you had the first posts i looked for and when i saw your comparison of various pan pictures i cried a little inside because i knew there was no way they were pans, unless we had very drastic opinions on "olive/brown."
back to the drawing boards! i've had a hell of a time getting pan specimens.

yeah, the jars actually took off way faster than the casings although they were done at the same time.
so the verdict is that i might have pans popping up in a little while if it truely is cubensis contamination, which is a possibility. the mycellium was pretty whispy in the WBS jars, so we will see.
anyway. thought i'd share this last picture before i let this post die. its a forest!
