As of tomarrow
    #8006939 - 02/10/08 10:43 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

No drugs, which includes alcohol and caffeine. I will be restricting my diet and creating a regular exercise routine. I'm going to attempt to keep this up until June.

If I make it till June i'm going to try for a year.

If I make it a year i'll take a look back and see if I can permanently abstain.

Wish me luck on this one.

No. Luck will let you down. Don't let luck have any say in whether you succeed or not.

Just decide how long you'll do this, and do it. Pick a date.

Never been a fan of coffee, the stuff makes me feel on edge. Exercise is a good idea, you shouldn't even be tempted to indulge in those past habits if you keep up the schedule.

Hey, you're either on the wagon or off it and those off the wagon are notoriously less endeared to those sitting on the back with their smug sober faces.

That's great for you man, but the fact is for most people sharing a beer with friends and enjoying oneself that way is a main social activity.

Of course this may vary depending on who you hang with (be it heroin addicts, hippies, smokers, ___add your poison here___)

What was your usage like prior to abstaining?
Which plants/fungi/chemicals and how often?
What are your reasons for pursuing the path of abstinence. (i get that alcohol and dietary restrictions are about your health of course.)

Alright, I realize this is sort of conterversial.  Yeah, I know its possible to have fun without alcohol, and I know a person can have a social life without alcohol.  But honestly, if I wasn't drinking or using ANY drugs (even caffeine!!) it's very hard to picture what a friday or saturday night would look like.  Well, I shouldn't quite say that.

I was in AA for a year, and my friday nights consisted of drinking massive amounts of coffee, smoking cigarettes, and hanging out different places, going to movies, playing cards, whatever.  It just got old.  There was no real fun being had, mostly just wishing I could go to the bar and get loose.  Sometimes you just want to get fucked up and have a good time.  I meet a lot more people that way... it's just more natural for me.  They don't call alcohol a social lubricant for nothing.  Why do you think people go drink at bars and try to meet people?  It's because it comes natural when you're drinking to socialize...

If you don't drink, that's fine.  But lots of people do.

No drinking = worse social life

So much for free thinking

I absolutely hate AA. I'll become a drunk old fucker on the street before I set foot in one of those guilt trip, feel sorry for yourself, you are a diseased sinner places where everyone gets more and more pathetic with each session.
