If you wait way to long to eat even though your hungry do you find it hard as hell to choke down food? I get this gagging feeling and like dry heave when I try to eat food when Im absolutely starving.

Your lucky, I think I may have an ulcer or something and thats what causes the heaving. Can excessive anxiety realy cause an ulcer in someone who's only 22?

I get that feeling as well. Probably because I go 6-7 hours without eating food and then binge. Very healthy IMO.

i know exactly what you're talking about. i used to fast all the time in high school for wrestling and i'd experience that quite often.
it'll happen every now and then these days too. just kinda not eat one day, then the next wake up feeling too nauseas to eat, even though i'm starving.

now that i think about it, it probably has something to do with low blood-sugar levels.

Dude I know what you are talking about. I will eat once a day or something, wake up starving, but everything and anything sounds disgusting to me and will make me feel like shit(or so it seems). I need to get some healthy habits.

I have the same problem.
It's not like I'm even that unhealthy in my eating habits, I eat decently nutritious food.
I never have any appetite in the morning, even thinking about eating nauseates me (I've had this problem since childhood ), so I never eat breakfast. I'll get hungry for an hour around lunchtime, and I try to make a point of eating then, but sometimes it just don't fit into my schedule. Then when I finally end up trying to have a good meal in the evening my stomache starts gagging me after only a few bites.
It's a really shitty feeling, both soooo hungry and yet soo unbearably nauseated by food . The only way I know to avoid it is to force yourself not to skip more than one meal in a row. The hardest part is getting the momentum to get a little something into your stomache every few hours, after that eating starts getting easier again.
Not to enjoy your pain but it's nice to know I'm not the only one who gets this. My girlfriend always gives me shit about it.

It's all good. I have worse habits I need to break/create. I am in class for a long time everyday and if I dont have lunch meat then there is no food I can bring to eat on campus and I am just too damn cheap to buy food on campus. So I end up eating around 5 pm or so and then again around 10-11 pm and go to bed around 4 am.
I suppose it is a better than not being able to stop eating.

Well now that I think about it there used to be times when I would wake up, and feel hungry.. but couldn't eat anything, or the thought of eating would make me feel naseous. Or when I would go without food for long periods of time this same thing would sometimes occur.
Later I discovered something.
Most people mistake thirst for hunger. Most of Americans are also chronically dehydrated. Next time this happens, try drinking some water, and see what happens. It won't kill you I promise.
Oftentimes, being thirsty is mistaken for hunger.. and by the time you are thirsty your body is already dehydrated. Remember that the human body is 80%+ water and your brain and blood and all your organs depend on it to function properly.
Then there is the other issue.. which is most of the food we (Americans) eat, is pure crap. When I used to get these feelings of being hungry but not wanting to eat.. I later realized a lot of it had to do with the kind of food that was available. Like waking up first thing in the morning and eating some microwaved sausage biscuit things does not appeal to me. Try eating something light and healthy... real food... like fruit. Something whole and preferably raw.
If you are hungry, drink some water. If you are still hungry, eat something good. Oftentimes eating just a little bit of something will kick your hunger in, if you are in fact hungry. I find fruit works best for this for me. It's juicy, it has fiber, it has vitamins, it tastes good, it gets the blood pumping.
As for your ulcer, if you don't want it to get worse I suggest weaning yourself off of fried foods, hydrogenated oils, saturated fats, refined flours and sugars, alcohol, and other such things that wreak havoc on the intestinal tract and healthy tissue.
Chamomile is an herb that is used to lower acid levels in the stomach and it is known to be relaxing as well - reducing stress - so you might consider trying chamomile tea or supplements. Ginger is also very helpful.. as is licorice (the herb not the candy..).
I had a friend who had a bleeding stomach ulcer, pretty severe one. The doctors had him on some medication that wasn't really helping him at all. I got him to change his diet and he started taking licorice supplements daily as well as a cleansing drink once every few days (lemon juice, cayenne pepper, water, maple syrup) and the thing was gone within 3 weeks. Note that herbs are not a magic cure but they can be extremely helpful and healing.. a healthy diet and plenty of water is the most important thing. Herbs wont do much for you if you're eating terrible foods, kind of counter-productive.

I always hold out on eating if I know someone will be paying for my food at a nice place but it always backfires and I can't finish my meal.

Could be your stomach has atrophied. Eat smaller more frequent meals.
