Reliving Memories...
    #8006681 - 02/10/08 09:48 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

For some reason, every time I get sufficiently high, I start getting back sudden childhood memories. Like I'll remember some dream I had a bunch of years ago and that'll trigger another memory, which triggers another memory, and so on...until it's just a cascade of my life experiences. But it's not just the memory of the experience, it's like I feel exactly how it was to live at that moment...the same perspective, the same emotions.

One time it was like I relived my whole life just sitting there going over experiences, to the point where I assembled this sort of spatial metaphor for my life in my mind as a tall building with the past on the bottom floor and present on the top. I went upwards and progressed as my identity flowed and changed, going past milestones on the transition from being a toddler to childhood through early and late adolescence. First day of school, making friends, discovering girls, etc. Even the most obscure and trivial milestones (from when I was like 4): "Oh my God I just realized that between the ceiling and the floor above is like...wood and insulation and wiring and stuff. I've found another piece of the puzzle!" Or just sitting at home, wondering what it is these "jobs" entail that adults are always on about. All these memories would become synthesized into smooth spatial image of me interacting with my environment and evolving. Eventually, I'd get back to the present and realize things like "Oh my God, the internet!" and "Holy shit...college!"

It gets to be pretty nuts, and puts stuff in perspective. Anyone have similar experiences?

hey there,

i get the same thing... actually i wanted to start a post about this, but seems there is a limit to posts you can make here:)

so once i had psy vocation really, my and my gf had some quality hash, acid and mdma, so whats really happened i had this nostalgia of my childhood, like i was re-living the thing again, sort of ancient de javu.

and mostly this happened on weed, i kept even having dreams of like FP childhood experience...

i think there is thing with weed, that it sort of gives this texture to things to get this ancient legendary feel, which i love, sort of imagination on steroids, which i personally love:D

at any point memories work in magic ways when it comes to psychedelia.. it can give you a chance to experience memory again just with different point of view.

I can also say that i experience this when high.

For me it's always huge waves of nostalgia. I'll get the feeling i had when i was about 6 with my mum in a certain place at a certain time. I will relive the exact feeling. Really interesting.

Cannabis definitely can bring conjure up memories from the past.

I remember once, after eating a very potent weed brownie, I was chilling at the beach with a friend when suddenly I started having, I guess what you'd call auditory hallucinations, but more the type where it's a song in your head, which we all get to a degree, even sober. But the thing was, not only was the music so real and lucid, but it from childhood Disney movies that I'd long forgotten. Just these random songs from the childhood Disney movies I loved. To this day I cannot even try to think of the songs I heard, I completely cannot remember them. Also, there was a point where I started making my own songs in my head, lyrics were just coming to me. It was sort of intense haha.

And I agree with the poster who said cannabis gives things an ancient feel. There is something about weed that is extraordinarly ancient in my ways. Cannabis has been said to actually break down societal and cultural barriers, which can be amazing, or terrifying for those who do not expect it. (This effect brings along feelings of confusion, anxiety, dissociation...)

Weed is interesting because it is most definitely psychedelic, but it works in a more recreational way, or so it would appear...

Count me in too. I've had this experience throughout my pot smoking career. I know what you mean OP, when you talk about visualizing your lifespan, only I read mine more like a wormhole...diving down into the time continuum.

I've also had intense highs that induce massive amounts of empathy for friends, family, or people whom I've never met. This is also a visual thing for me, jumping in and out of other souls, stepping in and out of other lives' and perspectives as I think of us all as one big interconnected Gaian beast. Anyway, this experience of 'other' is similar to what you're talking about in delving into the self / the past.
