What are my rights if my cars get repossessed? I heard somewhere that I can tell the repo men to stop, and they legally have to. Any truth to this?

is the car yours? or the banks/dealerships?
they cannot take your car from you if you tell them not to.
you cannot stop anyone from taking their car away from you, even if you own a key to it.
park it in a garage block it in with another car use the E-brake & turn tires all the way

Cars aren't mine, this is actually for a locked up family member who is way the fuck behind on payments, I'm taking care of his shit the best I can. One car is in the garage and the other in the driveway. Do they usually show up late at night or what?

when I did repos I'd show up at any time, day or night, Id check the neighbors house, those listed on the credit app as references, I've had people beg me to leave the car, attempt to assault and even pull guns to prevent me from taking the car, if your car is locked in the garage, I just wait until you leave for work, follow you and take the car once you were out of sight. I also used to carry several garage door remotes, click a button and the car is easy access

What sort of things did people try that were effective against you?
Certainly you wouldn't take a car that you couldn't locate.
What if it was parked in? Or in a garage with the emergency brake and wheels turned?

if it was inside of a locked gate or garage I couldnt legaly retrieve it, hence the garage door openers, most people have them now and rely on them for the 'locking' of the garage, obviously unreliable.
most cars I picked up we were given a key, sometimes we'd need a snatch truck or a rollback, I've dragged numerous cars down the road a few miles to a place I could cut or disconnect cables or linkages so the wheels would roll freely, occasionally I would have to bust a steering lock to straighten the front wheels
one of my best tactics for taking possession and it worked 90% of the time was to just knock on the door and let them know I was taking the car, most times they'd give up the keys and sign a voluntary relinquishment form, two of the cars I picked up was a gang leader in cabbagetown, the guy was really cool about it because I was ballsy enough to ask for the car, the other was a known shooter, also a very pleasant trip, dude smoked us out while he was cleaning out his personal effects, guns included.
if they want your car, they will find a way to get it, you'll have someone call one day with this line "Hello, This is investigator Knight in fulton county, we're calling in reference to a vehicle in your posession, an '05 maxima, vin number XXXXXX, seems the bank would like to have you car back as you've not been making payments, were making this call as a courtesy before a warrant is issued for the concealment of liened or mortgaged goods...."
people crumble when they think they're about to be hit with a felony over a few missed payments

No its actually a law in some states.. concealing mortgaged collateral subject to a security interest of 500.00 and below is a misdemeanor if its over $500.00 security interest its a felony... I have heard of people going to jail over it. at least in the southeast.. but many states have this law.
