i left my partner to his devices

and instead of using the half used syringe to inoculate the second half of the jars, he used a whole brand new unopened one.

with the extra spores in each, will they colonize faster? and is it best to keep the two strains separate?

i'd keep them separate from now on, but you should be ok.

so what's your question?

should he have not used the entire syringe?

well yea i mean because it's a waste but it'll be ok..

my questions are if the jars with more spores will colonize noticeably faster and if they should be fruited apart from each other

they should colonize a little faster since there's more surface area for the spore solution to be absorbed into and germinate into..

but it's not a 100% certainty.. there's tons of other factors that could cause your other jars to colonize as fast or faster than that jar..

anyways, no you dont need to fruit it away from another strain.. they are the same species and need the same conditions.. they wont affect each other.. unless you dont want them talking to each other cuz the different strains run with different crews and might get into a gang war or something. if that's the case isolate each different strain to different parts of your FC like a prison block..

It's not the amount of spore solution that determines the mycelium colonization speed but rather the genetics of the hype the two breeding spores form, a MS (multispore inoculation) works by have a flurry of spores enter the substrate, each germinates with one and another and gives off multiple different sub strains the mycelium then goes through the process of determining which of these sub strains will reign domination, the strongest hype will colonize over the rest and begin its run to consume the nutrient media at hand.

There's so many books that can explain this process better then I'll ever be able to but that's the jiff of it.

Using a entire syringe is somewhat pointless for cakes but when it comes to grains it's just extra spores solution to germinate on kernels, so no, it's not a bad thing but if it's a dark, dark master syringe he could have diluted it into 10 semi-clear syringes and still had great results.

Hope you can understand my explanation of things, good luck.
