I've got questions.

Below is something that has been on my mind since, well, since I wanted to know 'why'. Last night I drank some tea and I came to question my own motives. I wanted to know why people think I am strange. Then I wondered, why do I worry about such things? And it went on through the duration of the night. I wrote this just now, completely sober. I'd like to add that the tea I drank was the most wonderful I have ever had in my life.
The purpose of humanity Here I sit. Wondering why. Why do I sit here? There are things we know. We live on earth. There is a sun. There are other planets. This we are told, but by who? Why should I believe them? Do you know them? Do you believe them because people told you that you should? Why are people concerned about the earth? Are they worried it is going to die? If we are concerned about the earth, we are concerned for the planet itself. If we are concerned about humanity, we must be concerned about the earth. We are born, and one day we stop and ask… why? We are living, but we have only a few years on this planet. Why do I care about humanity and the direction it is heading? What is the purpose of humanity? We live on this planet but we are worried that some day earth will be mined of it’s resources. Then what? Why do I care? Am I supposed to help mankind onto the next planet or galaxy? So we can continue living? But what are we living for? What is the goal we are trying to achieve? Do we all just want an adventure? We’re never going to get out of this alive if we keep oppressing and killing each other. But why do we want to get out alive? Why am I afraid of death? If I stop living, what does it matter? I always feel that I need to do this, or I need to do that. That for some reason, I need to do what others are telling me to do. Why? Why do I care about my image? In the end, will it matter? My accomplishments… what are they worth in the end? We started out as wanderers, discovering how things work. Then, for some reason, we decided we need to come up with a society, with organization and classes. What goal did we mean to accomplish by doing this? Why? What is the purpose of this? Why do I need a leader? Why can’t I lead myself? Why do people think there is a god? What is his agenda? What is he trying to do? Why did he make us, if he does exist? Who is he, and what does he do? Does he just sit around, bored, playing around with the universe? Why should we do god’s will? Because we want rewarded? Would you feel better if you knew that this is not the end? Why? If this, everything around us, is god’s project, why is he doing it? Don’t you think he has better things to do? What if this is god’s job? Why does he need a job? Is someone telling him he should have one? What if he doesn’t do it? We he be smited by the hand of his god? Maybe they will take away his health insurance! What better things can he be doing? Surely he would want to take it easy every now and again. If our goal is to go on living, to have humanity last forever, where are we going to go when the gigs up? Why do we want humanity to last forever? It is because we want to keep discovering new things? Is that the purpose of humanity? To discover and learn? Once we know what we want to know, once we have figured out the answer and how things work, then what? What use is it? I think the purpose of humanity is to learn new things by discovering. Otherwise, why would we be so interested in making this world a better place? Because we want to help each other onto the next adventure. We want to help future people discover what we never had a chance to. ------
Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts. It's good to be back.

All good questions which over time will drive you batty. But at least you have the guts to ask them.
I think the purpose of humanity is to learn new things by discovering. Otherwise, why would we be so interested in making this world a better place? Because we want to help each other onto the next adventure. We want to help future people discover what we never had a chance to.
I think the purpose of humanity is the same purpose that all living things have.

No one can answer those for you. Everyone has their own answer to the question. There is no black and white, no right and wrong. You must find your own, young grass smoker.

Well that's a part of it. The purpose is survival until one can procreate.

Man is a social animal. No matter how hard he tries to deny it, his self-worth is, in large part, determined by the approval or disapproval of other entities, real or imagined; thus I believe most healthy people have some amount of concern for their fellow humans, present and future. That is the way we evolved and the way we continue to survive in spite of our often violent and careless nature.
Hope it doesn't break down soon?

The only answer I ever came up with to this question is that the only thing your accomplishments are ultimately worth is defining who you are. If your the type of person who does nothing but drugs all the time and has a shitty job, then your pretty much a junkie. If you do drugs all the time but take an active part in your community and your job, then your a junkie who cares. If you never did drugs and invented Microsoft, then your an individual driven to success. Your actions reflect on your character and your relationships.

We could use our 'highernes' to protect our animalistic (andwathever) nature (multi-meaning), as it will serve us in the future.

Eating food, food is the purpose. Watching tv, purpose is tv. You really think there is a specific purpose? I gave up searching for things like that.

For me the purpose is Tao/Nirvana/One/Life manifested as physical life to find balance so it can return to its true nature.
