cloning
    #8004544 - 02/10/08 12:51 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I read something on cloning the other day I really liked and now I absolutely can not find it.

I think it was just like mixing up an lc, sticking the needle of syringe through the base of a stem from the mushroom you want to clone, and then shoot that into the lc. Am I right? I've been looking for about half an hour and I just can't find it again.

Yeah man that tek has worked wonders for me. I would recommend stabbing the stem 3 - 4 times to to make sure you get a solid plug. Also I like to do at least 3 LC's just to up my chances. 2 out of my first 3 got cloudy but the 3rd one cloned like a charm. I've improved my sterile technique and now go 3/3.

word. I was thinking of stabbin it a couple times cuz I was worried it would slip out while pulling it back out. Now I know it's definitely alright to do that. good deal.

Yeah just make sure its a nice thick meaty stem. The skinny/hollow ones wont grab a good plug. When you inject it into the LC you should have to give it a nice push before it shoots out. You'll probably be doubtful on whether or not (Like i was) it will work because the plug(s) are so tiny but give it a few days and it'll get a nice little white fur coat. What kind of LC solution are you using?

I've had difficulty using the small gauge syringes that you get from vendors for this. However, YMMV. You can always excise a piece from the interior of a stem and put in the LC. Good luck.

thats what i did. used a scalpel. got it red hot of course before using it and then took a core sample out from the center of a larger fruit and ropped into my lc medium and it worked great. i use malt extract instead of honey though for my lc's

I've never made an lc before. Tried a few weeks ago with the last of my spores and went way ridiculously overboard on the honey. I know what I did wrong though, so I'm hopin next time it will work out. I've got 4 colonized cakes right now so it won't be long before I can try to clone one. Oh yes, using water and honey for it.

LC couldn't be much easier. 4% honey/karo to 96% water. Sterilize at 15 psi for 25 minutes. Done.

Good luck.

yeah i know. I don't have a pressure cooker but boiling my jars worked perfectly fine so I'm sure it will for this. Someone had said they mixed theirs as dark as whiskey and it worked great. I don't know how that would possibly work. I went slightly less dark than whiskey. Oh well. I learned my lesson.
