cactus feast: Advice Needed

well I'm going back to a friends house back in my hometown. Ive been wanting to eat cactus for a while now because i haven't tipped on cacti since over a year. My previous experiences have all been great to say the least. I have only eaten dried san pedro before (from a headshop in my hometown) every time i tried it it ranged in potency so its hard to say accurate doses, but the most Ive eaten is about 40-50g's dried with Syrian rue (maoi inhibitor). BTW i have always just eaten my cactus but this time i am going to attempt boiling down the cactus, to eliminate: (you get the point). Also this time i will be buying the fresh (or fresher, not dried) cuttings of san pedro. I do not know what i am doing when it come to boiling it down etc. so i was wondering if i could get some help and advice regarding this. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Here's how I think cactus should be done...
Some people may disagree, but this is my method-
Buy a 12inch cut of T. pachanoi or T. peruvianus.
Cut out all the areoles and spines.
Peel all the waxy outer skin off.
Cut away the green layer between the waxy skin and white inner core.
Discard the white inner core.
Dry the green flesh on a grid or wire mesh, with something below it to catch the cactus as it drys.
Once it is dry you can brew it up, or just eat it.
Brewing fresh cactus makes snot tea.

i have heard that exposing the cactus to heat i.e. when boiling it, it damages the psychoactive alkaloids. I just want to be sure that i can trip still if i do the boild down/ snot tea tek. Assuming i have a potent enough cactus.

If you use the chip method you will be fine.
Just keep the water just below boling and it will be fine.
The chemicals in cacti are very stable.

I agree with farfromhere's method however I use a 6-8'' cutting. Take the fresh inner flesh, cut it into tiny blocks, place it into a blender, then boil it fresh instead of letting it dry, strain it using an old cotton t-shirt as a filter, and repeat this process with your remaining "pulp" 2-3 times.

the center core of your cactus should be discarded. I also throw away the skin from the outside of the cactus, only keeping the center fruit-flesh of the cactus. But I think so people make use of the skin as well, I'm not quite sure though.

Just chop it up with the rest of the junk. You'll strain it anyway. There are bits of alkaloids in it, so why waste it?

The core and skin will make you sick.
They contain little to no mescaline.
The green flesh contains almost all the psychoactive chemicals.

Using fresh cactus makes a nasty slimey tea, you should take the time to dry it out.

The core won't make you sick. Why would it?
SWIM ate a bunch of whole cactuses, needles and all and didn't get sick.

well, farfromhere, thnx for ur advice but i wont have time to dry it out so i will be doing it with fresh stuff. Iv'e heard that once you brew it you wont get sick regardless. I would be willing to keep the core and other gunk in the brew, unless these parts make you sick (even after boiling it) So could some1 clarify this for me. And once you strain the snot, doesnt it become more liquid-like and not snotty?

i just got some pedro but havent cooked it up yet. i was planing on just choping it up and throwing it in the crockpot with an equal amount of water. what does drying the cactus first do to the brew? and how long would it take to dry it out?

Drying the cactus lets you turn it into powder so it can absorb better. Or you can just eat the powder.
Boil the whole thing. I don't think any part of it will make you sicker than another. Unless I was fine because my cuttings where young. Either way I really doubt it would bother you. Just be don't be a whimp when you chug it.

Every mescaline tek I have read recommends removing both the skin and the core. Let me know what your results are, I have a 10 inch cutting right now and im going to be getting several more over the next 1-2 weeks.

Drying it changes the consistency of your tea from snot to a regular liquid like water.
You can also use less water and boil it alot less.
The white part and skin will make you sick.
You get out of this what your put into it....

I agree with you about not consuming the core or the skin. However even if you use fresh cactus, as long as you are using a filter you wont end up with anything more or less slimy than using dried cactus.

we need a double blind study. Make one brew of whole cactus and the other with just the flesh. Get two groups of people and give them a dose of one or the other. Would they be able to tell the difference?

I've worked with a LOT of dried cactus and it ALWAYS turns to snot when you add water. It's the boiling process that breaks down the cell membranes and diminishes the snot effect. Drying the cactus is a complete waste of time unless you are planning to use it in an a/b extraction or extraction via alcohol. The only other reason for drying would be for long term storage.

Certainly, that's how I had my first mescaline trip. I had ground some dried peruvian torch into power and stuffed it into capsules. I washed down something like 60 or 70 capsules while riding with a friend. We climbed to the top a grain silo with a bunch of people who lugged a case of beer up there and hung out until I started feeling the mescaline. It was fucking amazing.
I did, however, puke, and later I had some serious slimy diarrhea. All of that dried cactus swelled enormously by soaking up all of the water I had used to wash down all of those capsules. That tended to make me feel a bit bloated. I felt better after puking.
About the only thing that really sucked was that I was the only one tripping that night. Everyone else got drunk and stoned. I was left to entertain myself until someone else woke up, at which time I was still tripping.
