Can anyone verify if these claims are true? I haven't used a microwave since I read this a few months ago.
Every raw food has its own “critical temperature” that must not be surpassed in heating. Critical temperatures are the highest temperature to which something may be heated for one half hour and then eaten without affecting your blood negatively or causing an immune response. Some examples of how different types of food preparation affect your immune system include:
* Raw or Frozen Foods: No change * Commonly Cooked Foods: Mild immune system stress * Pressure Cooked Foods: Moderate immune system stress * Manufactured Foods: (carbonated beverages, alcohol, white sugar and flour, white vinegar, etc.) Severe immune system response * Microwaved Foods and Canned Meats: (baby foods, army rations) Violent immune system response

Microwave Leakage Can Cause:
* Skin Cancer * Temporary Sterility (men)
* Birth Defects (women) * Cataracts
* Dizzines and Headaches *Blood Disorders

i dont care if any of the shit ive heard about microwaves are true or not. i refuse to use them. they are unnatural means of cooking, and the further you get from natural the more problems there are.
if it isnt gas, solar or electric, cast iron, glass, enamel or earthenware, i wont use it.

Certain types of plastics can leech into the food when microwaved.

and I don't get the microwave thing.
Sure enough of any radiation is bad, but microwaves aren't ionizing like gamma rays or some shit.
And since that page has no sources, who cares.
But I can respect someone who doesn't like a microwave, but I don't see how you can say it is definatly dangerous. At the worst, we don't know how dangerous conventional microwaves can be with moderate leakage.

You know what ive been thinking about this alot recently and i think im gonna chuck my microwave and just boil everything instead or oven cook it.
I do love microwave rice though its so much easier & less wahsing up, but i feel this comes at a price.
When im tripping and switch on my microwave or stand infront of computer screens its like i can feel them due to being so extra sensory. Like when i stand infornt of my pc i get a really bad sotmach ache and i can FEEL the radiation or somehitng form my microwave.
Those that don't believe me eat 3.5 grams shrooms and when your peaking cook something in your microwave and stand infornt of it, bet you wont do it for long!

Science is something useful, I suggest you and anyone else that is all paranoid and believe microwave ovens to be dangerous go read some more on the subject and educate themselves. Since when did open-minded = ignorant?

I have researched the issue and science points to them being bad. That doesn't mean it will hurt you, but it will interfere with achieving optimal health. It just so happens most hippies want to have the healthiest lifestyle possible, me included.

Umm proof please! Nothing I have read from authentic scientific research (peer reviewed material only) leads to the notion that microwave ovens are 'bad'. Hippies are all too quick to jump to any stupid conclusion without evidence.

i know how they work, i know what the FDA has to say about them, i know what the other side has to say about them, its just my choice, and thats that. im not telling you to not use them, im telling you that i choose not to.
open mindedness does not equal ignorance, however non open mindedness equals ignorance. quit being ignorant brad.
why dont you do bash someone who believes in a different religion than you, or why not take a stab at those uf us who are vegetarians or vegans, simply because we choose to live differently than you? sounds like it would be fun for you.

This isn't about 'belief', this is a clear cut case of fact vs myth. Those with open minds should be ready to be questioned and should also be ready to educate themselves, instead of buying into paranoid conspiracy theory bullshit on a scientific subject such as microwaves. If you can't 'dig' that then you have no idea at all what being open minded without being ignorant really means. (i.e. it does not mean being open to any bullshit that swings round the corner)

In chemistry their is seldom hard divisions between a reaction proceeding and it not when you're dealing with many molecules

well not temperature, strictly speaking, as its only the energy which can cause a conformational change or reaction that can denature an enzyme.
But this is a different case, enzymes are huge, and thus the average enrgey (temp) is much more important.
For a smaller molecule, temperature still determine the reaction rate overall, but as for the individual molecules the energy is all that matters.
I'm not saying temp isn't a factor in causing reactions, I'm just saying that its not a black and white line... its an average, and you'll have a bell curve type thing going on.

fuck microwaved popcorn.
http://www.popstir.com/
go to poppers and find the blue enamel stove popper. $25, and its fucking awesome! i make popcorn all the time now, and it tastes so much better popped on the stove.
edit: they have some of the most delicious popcorn varieties on this website. try a few different ones out! and if you dont have extra money for that, at least get the popper and buy a 50lb bag of popcorn at sams club, its real cheap

its the best $25 ive ever invested as far as the kitchen goes. it only takes a couple of minutes longer than microwaving, but noticeable difference in taste and crunchyness.
3-4 tablespoons of the oil of your choice(i use olive) and 3/4 of a cup of popcorn + whatever seasonings you prefer(added after popping).
its also easy as hell to clean. i never wash the thing, when im done and its cooled off, i just wipe it down good with paper towels.
