Every raw food has its own “critical temperature” that must not be surpassed in heating. Critical temperatures are the highest temperature to which something may be heated for one half hour and then eaten without affecting your blood negatively or causing an immune response.
reactions proceed when there is enough energy for them to
temperature is average energy, some species in a system w/ temperature x will have the same energy as the average energy of a system at temperature x+100 C
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell-Boltzmann_distribution So this above quote isn't really accurate. At most, foods may have a temp/time that above which the proportion of molecules reacting will be unacceptably high.
In chemistry their is seldom hard divisions between a reaction proceeding and it not when you're dealing with many molecules

dont be a closedminded fuck and tell other people how to live their lives. some of us dont want to use them. some have reasons, some of us do not.
there are other forums for insulting people, this is not one.
Science is something useful, I suggest you and anyone else that is all paranoid and believe microwave ovens to be dangerous go read some more on the subject and educate themselves. Since when did open-minded = ignorant?
i know how they work, i know what the FDA has to say about them, i know what the other side has to say about them, its just my choice, and thats that. im not telling you to not use them, im telling you that i choose not to.
open mindedness does not equal ignorance, however non open mindedness equals ignorance. quit being ignorant brad.
why dont you do bash someone who believes in a different religion than you, or why not take a stab at those uf us who are vegetarians or vegans, simply because we choose to live differently than you? sounds like it would be fun for you.
i don't think he's "bashing" you. i think he's saying 'why don't you show one single piece of evidence that prooves microwaves are harmful'. haha i'd like to see you do it too.
but whatever...if not using a microwave to reheat food makes you "feel" healthier then more power to you

you are one caustic, ignorant fuck. and youre not worth my time. congratulations for being the first person ive ever put on nignore.
how are you getting away with all this flaming? i hate when mods bend the rules for people just because the stench of patchouli surrounds them. so hypocritical and very "unshroomy".

well not temperature, strictly speaking, as its only the energy which can cause a conformational change or reaction that can denature an enzyme.
But this is a different case, enzymes are huge, and thus the average enrgey (temp) is much more important.
For a smaller molecule, temperature still determine the reaction rate overall, but as for the individual molecules the energy is all that matters.
I'm not saying temp isn't a factor in causing reactions, I'm just saying that its not a black and white line... its an average, and you'll have a bell curve type thing going on.

fuck microwaved popcorn.
http://www.popstir.com/
go to poppers and find the blue enamel stove popper. $25, and its fucking awesome! i make popcorn all the time now, and it tastes so much better popped on the stove.
edit: they have some of the most delicious popcorn varieties on this website. try a few different ones out! and if you dont have extra money for that, at least get the popper and buy a 50lb bag of popcorn at sams club, its real cheap

its the best $25 ive ever invested as far as the kitchen goes. it only takes a couple of minutes longer than microwaving, but noticeable difference in taste and crunchyness.
3-4 tablespoons of the oil of your choice(i use olive) and 3/4 of a cup of popcorn + whatever seasonings you prefer(added after popping).
its also easy as hell to clean. i never wash the thing, when im done and its cooled off, i just wipe it down good with paper towels.

You got a warning and I got a ban, nice. At least you're honest about not having any reason for not using microwaves.
