Unknown Mushroom: Basidiocarp & (Very Interesting) Basidiospores (Photographs)

This mushroom[s] was found growing underneath a Oak tree amongst woodchips (possibly Pine). At the time the person who collected it suspected them to be some type of miniature Strobilomyces, but after seeing the spores well I have no clue what they could be.
Basidiocarp[s] photographed in the wild (kind of blurry) seen below. There appears to be one specimen past its prime on the left and the specimen that was collected is on the right. The pileus resembles something from the genus Strobilomyces (Old Man of the Woods), but the specimen only measured 1" tall, and .5" diameter pileus. The cap is dark brown and the stipe appears to be black:
Here are the spores, a dusting was scraped off from near the edge of the margin (as the mushroom cap was not fully expanded and no observation of gills or pores has been seen), mounted in Methylene Blue Stain:

Haahaa You are going to laugh at me but i don't even see the mushrooms in the habitat shot... at least i don't think i see them. The spores look like something from the Helotiales family. Awesome spores!
Edit: ahh I see it now!!!!

Those are really interesting specimens. Try cutting one in half vertically and see what they look like inside.
Those septate fusiform spores are not like any bolete spores I've seen.
Happy mushrooming!

georgeM! I know what you mean!!
I looked and looked, until i read the full description where GGO mentions "Old Man of the Woods", then I realized that the things that look like pine cones or knots in some wood are actually the mushroom caps! See them now?

Toxic I thought about cutting the dried specimen in half, but I think that I might send the specimen back to Florida to have the pro's at the Mycological Herbarium in Gainesville to have a look at it and possibly accession it under some name. I had never seen this mushroom before in Florida, so there is a possibility it could be relatively rare (to me at least).
"septate fusiform".. very good

Hey GGreatOne
I wonder, how did you obtain spores from these things?
Something that popped into my mind is the possibility that your basidiocarp is indeed just that, perhaps it is an immature Strombilomyces. However the spores featured could be from a parasitic ascomycete like Hypomyces.
Many of fungi that produce those long septate spores are of the parasitic variety and i believe most are ascomycetes.
The size, shape, and presence of septa could be key diagnostic features for this thing. I'm jealous.
Do you mind if I show the pictures to a couple friends?
Please keep us posted, the weird fungi are so rad.

You bring up a good point george. As I said above, I scraped a dusting (of what appeared to possibly be a dark brownish black spore deposit) from near the edge of the margin, so really I am not certain if those are the actual spores from the mushroom.. I do not really want to cut the specimen open, because it might be sent back to Florida at the Mycological Herbarium in Gainesville. But, that might be the first thing that they do to get to the spores anyways.. I might do a radial section on it tonight myself to verify. Yes get another opinion from friends if you would like.
