substrate jars

I have a question regarding my jars. I currently have 6 jars inoculated and only one is starting to grow mycelium. The difference between this jar and the rest is that I had to add more substrate to fill the jar, so 1/2 is what I followed using the tek guide and the other half I added more water to make it more damp.
My problem is the myc. is only growing on the top portion of the jar and nothing on the lower. Also, the other jars are not showing any sign of colonization. I am wondering if there is a way to check these other jars to see if they got too dehydrated, and if so, is there a way to correct this problem, for example adding more water.

Just give the other jars some time, if you havn't already. I don't know how long your jars have been going but it can take over two weeks for signs of colonization.
Kinda late in the game to correct water content- do a search for "watering jars" & "the straw tek" with the search engine.
You want your verm with pf tek at field capacity- as long as you hit that spot your gonna be fine.

If this is multi-spore and not lc I'd say there's a good chance that the growth you are seeing is contamination. That's pretty soon for a spore injection.
Not wanting to be negative. Just keep an eye on it. If it's not brilliant white and more greyish white you might want to separate it from the others.

It looks pretty white to me, I had my girlfriend look at it too and she thought the same thing. This is just an injection from a syringe I ordered. I did move it away from the others jars though just in case it was contaminated. As soon as I find some batteries for my camera Ill post some pics and try to get an opinion as to what it might be.

Still pretty early anyway.
No one ever wants to follow it, but you're best bet is to just leave them alone for a few days and then check. But I know it's hard to do.

leave it for a whole damn week and then look at it
lording over your jars is like watching paint dry. it's just not going to happen all that fast!

I remember being the same way.
The first time I grew PF's they took a month, and you better believe I was checking on them every day.
