hello
if you search on here you will find much info on growing cactus from seeds, if you have questions after searching then feel free to ask but you are going to need to do some research and reading first just like we all did when we started.
here is a start
take a pie tin with a clear lid, poke holes in the bottom, fill with soil, soak soil with water, sprinkle seed on top of the soil (do not bury them) , then take a soda cap and gently press them in to the top of the soil, then mist the clear lid with a spray bottle and put the lid on and place under a fluro leave for 3-5 days then open every few days to mist the top of the soil and the lid to keep humidity up.
lots will say to bottom water but it is not needed and a spray bottle will be just fine
good luck with your searching/reading
-------------------- ================================================= if you have any questions please feel free to pm me , thx :-)

Follow those directions and you will have little green blobs in no time at all! trichos are pretty easy and forgiving once past the tiny blob stage It always gives me joy to see them come up.
Good luck

If the blob start growing tall and thin give them more light too. You want them to stay short and fat before they start putting on needles.

I planted 15 peruvian torch seeds a week ago. I put them 3 to a peat pot, and in a plastic bag, one end open, holes in bag..then i covered them and put them in the window for sunlight. I get about 6 hours of direct light through my window.
I have no blobs yet..but they are still young.

I planted 30 of my seeds and have about 15 green sprouts. Most of them are about 5-7mm high and have a split at the top.
Its day 8 for me.

Top row and bottom right were planted on the 10th

The bottom middle and left have KK919, Astrophytum coahulense, asteria "gonzales, Ariocarpus fissuratus, reutsus. And some L.will, I am not sure but I think they are about 4-5mths old.

I planted these about... 2 weeks ago.

This is my first attempt at groing cacti, these are T. peruvianus. I used plain sand with some small pebbles and a dash of perlite. I find it keeps the ascarid flies at bay. I have another two boxes. with about 20 in each. Growing cacti from seed is fun! I just sowed another bunch of Echinopsis, Disocactus, Epiphyllum, Lophophora, Rebutia as well.

Its day 13 here.
I have a 16/30 germ. rate so far. I have had one seedling die and a possible second on its way out.
And a few of my seedlings have their first spikes!
Whats is most peoples average germ. rate like?

day 18, i only put down 5 seeds, and only one has popped up.

i wasn't really expecting much at all. i used a tiny pot with a clear plastic container over the top to keep the humidity in, with no bottom heat. i also used propagation sand from bunnings for the soil, and didn't even put any holes in the bottom of the pot. i also just have it sitting on a window ledge for sunlight.
all in all it's growing ok for the shitty setup i have.
i just received a 14 watt heat mat from bunnings and i'm going to buy a good flouro light and a clone dome, then i'll put down the rest of my seeds.

That setup should be fine, not sure about the light though. But the seeds need to be drenched in water to germinate, so the lack of drainage should be fine. Are you sure you're not keeping them wet enough?
Check out this article on cactus seed prop in sand. He basically floods with water. (attached)

I don't know, it depends which direction your window sill faces and whether it gets enough direct sunlight. But i don't think that'd be a real problem with germination, just growing. I don't think bottom heat is really needed unless you're wanting serious germ success. I'd spend the money on a light. I've heard the cheap low wattage CFLs from Bunnings can explode. This is my light.

yeah like i said i'm not really expecting much from this little setup i have at the moment. i put them down with the attitude of 'if they grow, they grow'. i have just bought a heat mat off ebay, and i have now got HEAPS of seeds,
Trichocereus Pereuvianus Lopophora Williamsii Bridgesii Trichocereus Pachanoi Bridgesii X Trichocereus Pachanoi, and Scop X Juuls (whatever that is)
i will be sewing these seeds in april with a good light and clone dome.
hey undergrounder, could you send me a pic of the light with it switched off and get the whole thing in the shot?

Day 2 for them, no action apart for a weed.
My sprouts have heaps of spikes now though!

I've got a 75% germination rate. Most are about 1 CM tall with an average of about 4-6 spikes on the top of each one. They're in front of the window so they're not getting much light. I put a reptile heate mat under the pots

The ones i planted 30 days ago have heaps of spikes already, one has about 20+ long, thin spikes and is starting to send out its second aerole set, they are all about 8-10mm tall with one exceptional seedling that is abut 15mm tall. They are getting quite fat.
The ones i planted 14 days ago have almost all shed their seeds and are about 5-8mm tall, with their first aeroles but no visible spikes yet. They are still blobs.
Germination rate is about 75%.

I had to move mine out from under the lights and up to the open air in a window because my grow area got an ascarid fly invasion.
But still, they've fattened up a bit, most have developed their first 8 or so tiny spikes.
