A February Find.

Habitat: Found growing inside a decayed log.

Gills: attached. Brown.

Stem: Partly hollow. isolated growth inside. See pic for dissection.

Cap: Chestnut brown, reddish brown. Lighter in center. Color fading slightly over the course of a couple hours.

Spore print: Looks purple on foil, brown on white paper.

Bruising: None observed. Didn't get base of mushroom though as I was in a hurry.

Location: SE USA. Mtns. Hiking trail.

probably stropharia. Notice the veil remnants on the stem.

Might be a Hypholoma, maybe Brick Caps.

In the second picture, mushroom on the right, I see veil remnants.  It could just as easily by a hypholoma though, which was my first thought because of the gill color, but I saw the veil remnant, and...
